Handle-less pots and pans

The kind you can attach a handle to and remove it for storage. Do you have them? Would you recommend them? I'd be grateful for specific recommendations, particularly not Tefal which a relative has and I notice they look scratched and old very quickly. Must also be dishwasher safe!

Well I have Tefal and have had the deep frying pan for more than 10 years (yes I do use it regularly!) and it still looks absolutely fine. I picked up some more when I was in France earlier this year. As to looking scratched, it depends how badly you treat them...

I don't have the pans you mean, but I do use Le Creuset casseroles/Dutch Ovens as saucepan. I have two (22cm and 24cm) plus another smaller one that has an ill fitting lid because it was second hand. Anyway - I do prefer not having handles in the way, and they're easier to fir in a drawer. Supposed to be dishwasher proof, but they're easy to wash up, and I want to look after them.

Could you share which type of Tefal you have please? They do seem to have different types of Tefal Ingenio with various different metals and coatings now that I'm looking online, so maybe what you have is more robust than the ones I've seen. I can see there's Tefal Ingenio Eco Resist, Easy Cook, Emotion, etc...

They only get scratched if you use metal utensils and wash them in the dishwasher. I don't think any pans should go in the dishwasher.

abyssofwoah · 03/12/2022 20:26

I have the tefal ones and love them. They take up so much less space.

Thanks. We do have one like that (not Le Creuset but same style) but DH uses it to make loaves of bread and refuses to use it for cooking - think he's scared it'll get ruined somehow! They are extremely heavy though and I'm not sure how confident I'd be with throwing (heaving) them into the dishwasher, so I think I'll stick with normal pots for general cooking!

We do have some Scoville Neverstick pans which are great, but have handles. I'm needing to replace the pots now and basically weighing up Scoville with handles, or something else with no handles, which would make them easier to store and easier to fit in our small dishwasher.

We have the tefal ones. I use metal utensils and put them in the dishwasher so they are a bit scratched but that's a small price to pay for my laziness. I agree they're great, especially for storage. We have three pans plus two frying pans and they stack so nicely.

Some are specifically dishwasher safe, like the Scoville ones, and it doesn't seem to affect them whatsoever. My relative who has the Tefal doesn't own a dishwasher though, so it's not that. They looked particularly scratched round the rim where the handle clips on, so I think it's general wear (over quite a short period of time) rather than utensils.

Thanks! Which range do you have? Have they not scratched at all?

We use our Le Creuset for everything - including baking sourdough loaves. But you're right; they're really heavy when full. I don't like non-stick, so I suppose if I was replacing them with something lighter, I'd look at stainless steel which are absolutely fine in the dishwasher. I found food would 'catch' when I had them before. This can happen in the LC pans, but hardly ever happens, and much easier to clean when it does happen. My stainless pans looked good for years.

We’ve got the tefal ingenio expertise ones, suitable for induction hobs. No scratches, but we’ve had them for less than a year so can’t speak to the longer term. I put them in the dishwasher but don’t use metal utensils.

Nope, my tefal ingenio have only lasted a couple of years, always hand washed with a sponge and non-metal utensils.

Ahh, this is what I was worried about with Tefal! Do you know which range yours were?

Ingenio non stick for use on induction hob. Bought in France. Sorry for the delay, only just looked back at this!

Cyclistmumgrandma · 11/12/2022 10:09

As regards Le Creuset being too heavy, yes, I got rid of mine. I do have an aluminium enamelled non stick casserole dish (with special base so OK on induction) so similar in use to Le Creuset but lighter, cheaper and more practical.

LadyEloise1 · 16/12/2022 09:44

Why not go for the Tefal Ingenio Stainless Steel range - won't scratch but not non stick.
I have some Tefal Ingenio non stick. Love it. I haven't got it long and there are teeny tiny scratches on some saucepans. I don't care. They are minuscule
Amazon do other brand of handleless saucepans/ frying pans too.
