Why can't I ever get rid of any f'ing stains?

Every school shirt is ruined pretty much instantly and my son is in adult shirts I'm basically spending 10-15 a shirt for them to be ruined within a week.

Baby items. Everything ends up with orange stains

And basically nothing ever looks clean. So I end up re washing it 3 or 4 times then bin it.

I've tried bleaching, anti stain rub, washing on cool, washing on hot , long wash short wash, we wash with fairy (baby has skin issues)

So please Tell me what I need to do.

I'm on the verge of angry tears.(I'm pregnant and hormonal)

Boil wash in a big big pot with a couple of teaspoons of detergent. ?

What sort of stains?
I rub washing up liquid into stains before washing with bio powder. Is it powder or liquid non bio you use? Bio and non bio powder will contain bleaches that help with stain removal.

Liquidtabs. But I feel like I've had this problem forever haha. Food stains, sweat stains, ink stains, mud. Some stuff is fine it's mainly lighter clothing.

Don't use liquitabs (or however it's spelt!) I've tried loads over the years and non of them remove stains as effectively as bio powder.

For stains, there's this spray you can buy called "elbow grease." It's amazing. Leave it on for 5 mins and straight in the wash. It even removed red wine from my grey carpet.
I wash everything on 40 degrees except bedding and towels which I wash at 90

Matalan... white shirts £9.50. Cheaper when 20% off etc

Wash the white shirts with nothing else. Wash them the day they are stained. Throw in a spoon of vanish. I have all white bedding and this is what I do.. periods (tmi). Spilt drinks. Moisturiser etc. sweaty dp. (I once spilt tomato sauce on it.. dont MN lynch me for Being disgusting). There isn't a mark on it.
Vanish isn't cheap it's about £4 a small tub but it works

Also second using powder. Liquid tabs and liquid just don't cut it

TSJ19 · 28/11/2022 16:43

Washing up liquid rubbed onto the stain before you put the clothes into the washing machine.

No good this time of year but if it's carrot or baby poo sunlight does the trick (it's the uv light that does it apparently). I'm in the same boat though I wonder if my DC goes to school and just rolls around the playground floor sometimes 🙄the sooner you treat it the more likely it is to come out. I pre treat with biological and own brand vanish then wash in non bio afterwards. Its not foolproof but it gets rid of a lot of them.

Actually it doesn't need to be sunny for it to work - daylight is enough. This trick is particularly good on tomato based stains. Just put the item in the window/on the window ledge - might need leaving a couple of days in this weather - stains gone!

dementedpixie · 28/11/2022 16:53

Liquids and liquitabs aren't as good at removing stains. I'd try a powder and a scoop of vanish type powder and pretreat with washing up liquid. Try a cycle with a prewash as well.

Angelik · 28/11/2022 17:00

Speed is essence to get in soak but appreciate if done at school, it's too late once home. But soak, scrub stain with a vanish type product, soak again etc. Always cool water, never hot. But I admit I gave up with school polo shirts!

thejadefish · 28/11/2022 17:14

@Shelby1981 I didn't realise thank you- I had tried when overcast but obviously didn't leave it there long enough!

stewielouie · 28/11/2022 17:48

I use the vanish stain bar (solid like a bar of soap) on items before putting them in if I know it’s something stainy and my washing machine on the ‘intensive’ cycle. 99% of stains are gone. I have a toddler who refuses to wear a bib.

0o0o0 · 28/11/2022 18:38

Ahh I remember a few years back putting the kids polo tops and white socks in a stock pot on the hob to get them sparkling when i had a dead machine! 😀
Worked a treat though without all those harsher chemical stain removers.
