<Disclaimer> I have searched for the manual it tells me my WM doesn't exist HmmAnd the YouTube videos aren't the same as mine .

There's a tube in front of the filter . I haven't pulled it as when I tried to loosen the filter water came out ( I did use a tray but it bypassed that ) I had to mop up and use towel/kitchen towel. As its on a very slight incline the water was going under the machine which I don't want .
I've tightened up the filter and ordered some absorbant washable pads (which will be good for freezer defrosting too)

Its a Hotpoint 10kg Autodose about a year old .
I know I need to clean the filter to prevent problems especially now washing heavier/ fluffy things .

Anytone got the same type of filter ? Does the tube need moved or can I just remove the filter ?

Need a more thorough serch fr the blinking manual ....

Thanks

In my (different) machine I have the same arrangement. According to the manual this is an emergency water draining hose for use in case the machine doesn't drain water in the usual way. You have to drain excess water before cleaning the pump filter. In six years I've tried this twice and have never found anything inside to clean.

Ah , thank you
DH found a copy of the manual (I had a quick glimpse but there were drawings not photos so I'll need to look properly ) it does say abput a drainage pipe to unplug .

I'm not going to do anything till I've got the absorbant pads though , I know there's always water (even though I did a drain cycle beforehand ) but its such a pain to get to !

Idon;t want to loosen anything that doesn't need loosened Shock

It is just a drainage tube.

I have used it when my machine stopped emptying. There is probably a little plug at the end of it which you can use to stop / start flow from the tube so you can empty the water from the machine drum into a jug.

If you are just cleaning the filter (rather than having to empty the machine) unwind the black tube from its clip to move it out of the way and then turn the actual filter to pull it out and clear it. Be aware there will probably be some water in the filter too.

i usually put a metal baking tray under the edge of the machine with a tea towel in it. That mops up any water in the filter.

I did this with a machine in the house when we moved in four years ago. I then put a wash in afterwards and the whole floor flooded. I hadn’t tightened it enough so be warned. I needed pliers to get it to turn initially. I now realise why.

Same sort of drain in my machine - oven roast tray on a towel and turn dial to release water. Keep emptying tray until water stops coming and you can remove the 'dial'.

Clean what you can see or reach - never very much there for me, especially now there are rarely coins in pockets now.

imnotsickbutimnotwell · 27/11/2022 16:35

It’s the drain for when the machine is blocked and can’t drain itself usually in my case full with hair bobbles or safety pins. There is usually a little mini hose thing you open first to get most of the water out. They never are long enough to drain into a pot or something so I just put loads of old towels down and when that is done you can unscrew the filter to check what’s stuck in there.

I have to clean mine every month and it is horrid.

I put dehumidifier on and accept water will go under.

Ps, did you know dehumidifier also have a filter.

dementedpixie · 27/11/2022 16:36

Use the black tube to drain the excess water before opening the filter cover. I drain into a baking tray with a lip

So I can move the tube but I dont need to uncap it . It's just to do a clean of the filter really .

I might do it after the next maintenace wash and see if there's any sludge or debris .

I didn't need pliers but it was tough to unscrew - only did like a half turn then twisted it back again !

I use a shallow tray when opening up that tube, and mop up the water in the tray with a sponge and squeeze the sponge into the sink.
The only time I've had to clean the filter was after buying new towels. There's usually nothing to clean but it's sensible to check periodically.

dementedpixie · 27/11/2022 16:42

Uncap the tube to drain excess water. Saves it all going under your machine!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/11/2022 16:44

Yes , we did ours today and there was a thin layer of fluffy dust in a honeycomb pattern .on the mesh . DH swears ots quieter now

I do the tumble dryer one in the sink , amazing what is trapped when it sluices out ( the one at the base not the door one)

My previous machines have been bog standard twist out filters , no tube-ey paraphanalia

Tip - if you need to drain using the tube, use an empty four pint milk carton to drain into, it's much easier to deal with than a tray.

What a good idea! 🙂
