Could you tell me what to do with some things?

the options are
Bin
Recycling
junk modelling bag for school
Charity shop
anywhere else I haven’t thought of like, can they be repurposed in some way.
they are pods from blind bag type things, they are too much like ‘things ‘ to throw away but I can’t think what else to do.
and if it’s okay I will post more photos of things I’m not sure what to do with.

@Fireweeds -ha ,I wondered what that noise was yesterday .You've snuck into my house .And also cloned my brain .

Keep posting,you're a public service.

If anyone else wants to post photos I probably won’t have anymore for a while, those were just the things close to hand.

I'd keep the ribbon and put it on a Christmas or birthday present and put the box in the recycling.

NoSquirrels · 13/11/2022 11:23

Plastic egg things: junk modelling

Chocolate box: junk modelling

Glasses cases: Specsavers

In general terms, though, limit your decisions of where stuff goes. Don’t have lots of little piles of ‘maybe this can go there, and then this can go to that place, and then these can go to this ideal-but-infrequently-visited person or place’. Those piles of good intentions just lurk taunting you.

Decide on a limited number of places you go frequently.

  1. Charity shop with good parking/on a route somewhere/takes all sorts.
  2. School - junk modelling, outgrown uniform etc
  3. Supermarket: rags & shoes recycling, batteries etc
  4. Freecycle
  5. Bin

Make everything fit those categories as far as humanly possible.

Fireweeds · 13/11/2022 12:46

I absolutely do do that with the exception of a baby charity I like to support if I can, but that’s a finite amount of stuff. I really have a problem with throwing stuff out tho if it might have a use to someone or it fits the ‘thing’ category outlined above. I’m also aware that charity shops don’t really want my tat! And then I can’t move.

I teeter along the edges of a hoarding disorder I think & times like now when I have too much happening I can’t process all the things.

OP I’m so glad it isn’t just me who struggles with these things! I have quite the collection of ‘too good to go in the recycling’ cardboard boxes, ferrero rocher trays, rainbocorn eggs…
I also struggle with clothes that still have a lot of life left in them but that no one would pay money for in the charity shop

Fireweeds · 13/11/2022 13:00

You see other people’s decisions are easier!
the pencil box should go to the charity shop.
unless it was handmade by your parent & has serious sentimental attachment.
or to a playgroup but then someone has to sharpen the pencils

Give the plastic pod thingies to someone with an older baby/toddler. Great for fine motor skills.

I'd take the chocolate box too for my DC... they're really into making play doh chocolates atm so would have fun putting them into such a pretty box and then I'd just recycle it when we were fed up with it.

Glasses cases I'd put in the bin personally, but charity shop probably a better suggestion.

Another if anyone is still about.
muslins. I didn’t use them much as I didn’t have very sicky babies.

I use muslins as napkins and general cloths around the house.

A friend uses them as tea towels and another for making marmalade.

If you don’t think you’ll use them, you could pop them in a bag and in to one of the clothings bins.

They can be used for tagging if not suitable for anything else.

Fireweeds · 20/11/2022 15:13

What’s tagging? I kept 4 & put the rest in the recycling bin. Thank you for replying.

It’s a typo for ragging!

Fireweeds · 30/12/2022 07:17

No picture but a little plastic tube that was part of a mini bubble wand thing from a party bag.
the children use it for potion making etc.
shoukd I bin it? (Its rubbish isn’t it?) or do I start a ‘useful items for potion making’ box? ….

Argh, a zombie - well semi-zombie ad it's the OP who has resurrected. You'll get loads of replies to the original questions OP. Did you get those things out of your house?

The potion tube - if the kids still use it I'd keep, if they haven't used in a year then bin (includes recycling where possible).

I'm not very good at following my own advice.

Lulu1919 · 30/12/2022 07:59

Bin

Fireweeds · 30/12/2022 09:41

It’s not a zombie, I’m still using it lol
the other things have mostly left not the glasses yet, haven’t got round to it so another link is helpful.

As an infant teacher I'd use the eggs in my tuff tray with sounds inside to encourage word building . Or I'd have an egg box with rhyming 'a' words for example and the kids would have to fill an egg box with the appropriate medial sound words or I'd have some toy chickens with calculations round their necks and the kids would have to open the egg and match the number to the correct calculation. This is my problem - I can't look at any old crap without thinking of repurposing it in my classroom
