Le Creuset casserole dish - help needed!

Please see pic - is this beyond rescuing? We mostly use it for slow-cook curries and casseroles and however long I soak and scrub it, it’s impossible to get properly clean - have tried all sorts of things in recent months and still it looks like this…horrible! If any of you have managed to restore a similar cast iron dish I’d really appreciate your tips 😊

Boil with washing powder/dishwasher tab & use a cream cleaner for anything left over

Mine was like this. Cut a lemon in half and dip it in salt. Scrub. Put it on the heat and continue scrubbing and adding more salt.

Update! so far this is the result after scrubbing with lemon and salt for about 20 mins (thanks to @WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay for the tip) and simmering with a dishwasher tablet twice over…. It’s still a work in progress and as you can probably see all the smooth shiny surface has well and truly gone forever - which I’m hoping isn’t yet another disaster! - but I think it’s worth persevering ??

Boil it gently with water and bicarb for half an hour.

Be warned, I managed to break one, once! Straight out of a hot oven into a cold sink of water. It shattered. I was um... surprised at my own ineptness.

I broke one too 😢
Dropped it on the floor handle first.
I still mourn it.
(Bought it in Carrefour in Caen about 30 years ago, for not very much at all by today’s standards)

If you can keep going without damaging the surface, I would - but, honestly, try Le Creuset - they stick by their lifetime guarantee.

Happydaze2 · 13/11/2022 22:24

I have contacted Le Creuset but they have emailed requesting info I no longer have - like where and when it was bought (not a clue and can’t find any email trail or paperwork) - which made me think it was all going to be a road to nowhere…

Thick domestos bleach, neat and leave to soak. Worked on mine.

They replaced ours when the enamel started chipping — after 25 years! It was a wedding present so no receipt. (And who would keep a receipt for that long anyway?!). I was extremely impressed.
