Draining dishes

When I empty the dishwasher I put certain things on the draining board to air dry.

On a Sunday this can drive me nuts as it can be on 4 or more times as I do baking for the week and loads of cooking. Is there any reason why I can't put things straight away?

We put all of ours away as we unload, if something is still soaking wet I might run over it with a towel, but the less drying I can get away with the better!

Duh! at me. Should just do that. Seems a never ending conveyor belt with me playing catch up!

why don't you just pull the rack out for 20 mins so it can air dry while it is still in the dishwasher.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 29/01/2008 14:25

Usually because the next load is already waiting to go in and I am playing catch up their too! Note to self - stop baking so much! I also don't like the dishwaher drawer out when the kids are about. A lady died as she slipped on her floor landing on an upturned knife.

at upturned knife story! Yes I do the same as natalie - sounds like you are creating to much work for yourself!

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 29/01/2008 14:32

I am severely lacking in common sense!

Teachers used to say I was very bright but had no CS. Too tired to think half the time!

You don't have to leave the door completely open though. Just open it and pull out the top drawer a bit so that it is just ajar - all the steam will come out and everything should be perfectly dry within 10 minutes. Of course knives should always be in blade first

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 29/01/2008 14:35

I always put the knives blade down and it drove me mad that DH didn't but he does now. That poor woman. It went stright through her

No, don't put blades in first, that is upside down, and if you are like me and shove too much in, it will never come out clean.

My mum put's the cutlery in upside as well, it annoys the hell out of me for some unknown reason!

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 29/01/2008 14:37

I always make sure the cutlery has enough room and figure it can go back in if necessary. I won't have blades up for anything.

i won't have blades up, wtih runny-abouty DS regularly steaming past the dishwasher

It is ok, we have a ban in the kitchen for anyone under the age of 21, or who is likely to slip, or drunk.

I do have to go and get DS1, stop staring at me MamaG, it is getting a bit freaky

My cutlery rack has spaces for knives so that they can go in upside down, and are 'held' by their handles. There is no 'basket' underneath them, it's an open space, so they wash well. If they are too big to fit in there, they go in the top rack lying down.

Perhaps that finish stuff with a drying aid would help dry stuff better?

Alternatively, if it's baking trays etc, could you leave them in the grill whilst the oven is on to dry them?
