Really warm winter duvet

I've probably left this late and they will be sold out by now, but can anyone recommend a really warm duvet to make it easier to keep the heating off this winter? Not wool, because we've had carpet beetles in the past, but we don't have any allergies, so it can be synthetic or feathers/down. I need two, one fairly cheap (under £50) for a student dc who isn't here often, the other one is for me, so I don't mind paying more! Both double size.

Are you looking for 15tog then? Or 13.5tog?

Toomanysleepycats · 02/11/2022 10:04

Years ago when we were renovating a house (no heating) in winter and I was a wee skinny thing who felt the cold I slept with three duvets.

I put one under the sheet, so toasty, and slept with two on top of me. Then as it warmed up I could just ditch the extra ones.

I have an ikea 13.5 or 15 tog down and feather one that is really cozy. It's a double and was £50. I've bought it for student DC and they love it too - and I replaced the fibre one on the spare bed with the same one because I love it so much.

I went and checked. Mine is only 12 tog and it's roasting! It's this one www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/fjaellarnika-duvet-12-tog-70459306/ and is now £55

Ive never been cold in bed since buying a decent mattress - around £800-£1200.

Get a Baavet - a wool filled duvet. There website sells factory seconds which are still pricey but not as pricey. They are game changingly warm. And fine in the summer too. No cold spots in bed. Warm within seconds of getting into bed. Worth every penny.

as above, but I find putting an old-fashioned blanket on top of the duvet really turbo-charges the warmth. I've got my DPs' old university blankets (from the 1960s) and while they're not exactly luxurious, they are so effective.

We have a 15tog it’s lovely and warm, I think it’s an IKEA one.

Get brushed cotton bedding too, much cosier than normal cotton in the winter.

Premier Inn at Home are great IMO

bellinisurge · 02/11/2022 11:18

You can get wool blankets second hand off eBay for around £20 or less. Get them dry cleaned first . They'd do

elizabethgaslight · 02/11/2022 13:21

I've looked at the Premier Inn ones but they only do 10.5 tog, not the 13/14 tog ones which I'd prefer for winter. I think 10 is more of a year round weight.

I've got wool blankets, but we need new duvets anyway. Ours are probably 15 years old and have got quite thin and are overdue for replacement. I should have made it clear, the fuel price increases have just prompted me to get round to buying decent warm duvets which we've needed for a few years.

I just bought a 15 tog one from dunhelm, I'm sure it was less than £30.

elizabethgaslight · 02/11/2022 13:26

Sorry, I posted that before I mentioned the other replies - thanks for all of them.

I will have a look at Ikea.

I think our mattresses are okay as they're quite new and were decent quality, but I can't justify replacing them again.

I'd love a wool duvet but I assume carpet moths would love it too, and they are a big (and expensive) problem where I live.

I recently got a 13.5tog feather duvet from Argos £45 for a king size. It's really warm and heavy which I love. Really pleased with it.

Op - No carpet moth problems. It's just like a normal duvet just filled with wool
