I work in an office with air conditioning It is turned up too high and mosst of the time it is very cold.

I can never understand the advantage of air conditioningm Years ago wen I first started work there was no such thing as air con and we opened the windows for fresh airr. I actually preer fresh air over air con whic is artificial. I do not see the point of air conditioning in offices or in homes. If you go to America most homes have air conditioning which I will neer understand becaue if it gets too warm surely you just open a couple of winows,

Just found this online

Is it better to open windows or AC?
Keeping windows open more often is better for you
It's that fresh air that makes the difference, according to a National Post article. Keeping your windows closed up for too long can lead to a buildup of toxins that are already in your home. That includes mold spores, dust, smoke, viruses and bacteria.

We don't have windows to the outside at our work so AC it is

I used to work in a 70's glass monstrosity of an office building. When the air con broke it was like working in a greenhouse even with the windows open.

I'm not a fan of air con, but in some office buildings it really is needed.

The U.K. shouldn't really need aircon the majority of the time and it's certainly daft to have it actually cold, as daft as heating a house too warm. Unfortunately as PP have said, some buildings are badly designed.

If you go to America most homes have air conditioning which I will neer understand becaue if it gets too warm surely you just open a couple of winows,

I guess you've never lived anywhere hot and humid. We lived in Pennsylvania and it wouldn't have been tolerable sometimes in summer without aircon. Opening the window would just make the house hotter. And the windows all had to have fly mesh on them so the air flow wouldn't have been great.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 29/10/2022 00:35

Ok what is artificial air?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/10/2022 00:35

We have air con at work and it's a bone of contention as it's permanently too cold and most people are wearing coats and blankets in the office. Also the amount of illnesses that fly around.

Years ago wen I first started work there was no such thing as air con and we opened the windows for fresh airr.

It started when computers became common in the 1980s/90s. They used to give off a lot more heat than they do now.

I get why opening windows when its hot outide makes no difference because you get no breeze so that why I have a fan. Even so I do like fresh air but where I live we get a lot of flies and in summer they fly through my window. Nothing I can do about tht. I keep my home very clean and do not leave food lying about but they still come in. This only happens in summer. I think they fly around the outide dustbins and then come in the windows. Unfortunately I live in a flat and we share the dustbins and my neighbours do not wrap or dispose of their rubbish very well and attract flies. I know that is the issue because my parents had dustbins outide their house and they never attracted flies because they knew how to dispose of rubbish properly as do I. Oh well
