How can I get my laundry to smell nice?

I've always used Persil bio powder, but lately it doesn't seem to have any smell and my laundry just smells of nothing. I always use laundry cleanser, white vinegar to freshen and never use fabric conditioner because I don't like the way it makes the fabrics feel and also the oily build up.

The laundry is air dried, not tumbled. I did try using Formil bio powder, but the laundry smelled stale so I gave up on that and went back to Persil. I just want that old fashioned clean laundry smell back. I'm also finding the Persil isn't getting things as clean as it used to so I've bought some Oxy powder to boost the wash.

Do you put your machine on a high temp program for cleaning? Might be worth a try as machines get musty when they are not cleaned often This could be masking the nice smell from your detergent.

DAZ powder is as "laundry" as it gets! Old school no nonsense no fragrance, just clean smelling.

If you want scented, the I love Bold. Nice smell without being too strong.

The machine is fairly new. Just a few months old. I always wash at 40 degrees either a cotton or eco setting.

I've ordered some Smol bio pods to try.

Interestingly I do all my laundry on a cold wash (as in 0 - not 20). It gets everything clean and smells good. I should point out I have a grubby 5 year old who attracts grime. Both DP and I do a lot of sport (running through mud in the winter, mountain biking in mud). The only issue is the BO smell under the armpits of sports clothing... I use a specific sports detergent to deal with that. I save the sports kit up to do it together (you can imagine the stink by this point) and it comes out smelling fine on the cold wash (as long as I use the sport wash detergent stuff).

I used to need to cleanse the washing machine regularly when I was using a temperature, fabric softeners or those smelly laundry Perl things. The machine would stink after 5 or so weeks. Ive not needed to do this since I swapped to cold washing (and ditched the other products) 6 months ago.

I just use aerial liquid pods (with sports wash too, but just once a week when I do the sports kit).

I do live in a soft water area. I use the machine every other day. I leave the door open to 'air' it as soon as I've removed the washing.

I use a tumble drier (don't put anything in that to create nice smells).

Laundry smells great. I definitely vouch for getting used to particular scents and not noticing them though. As last big as stuff doesn't smell fusty or sweaty I don't care!
