Toilet cleaning question

TR888 · 25/10/2022 16:39

We've got one toilet that has odd hard stains which I can't seem to remove. It feels like it's a build up of something. Any ideas how I can clean it? Thanks.

White vinegar and baking soda and wait 10 mins.

TR888 · 25/10/2022 17:26

Thanks. How do you use it, do you pour the vinegar in the bowl and add the bicarbonate?

I think I read somewhere to use denture tablets.

SmileyClare · 25/10/2022 17:33

It’s likely limescale build up, especially if you have hard water?

I use limescale remover for toilets, Harpic do a max strength one. Leave to soak then scrub really hard with a toilet brush.

The methods above work on limescale too.

RoseslnTheHospital · 25/10/2022 17:43

Vinegar and baking soda at the same time will neutralize each other, which is pretty pointless for getting rid of limescale. If it's under the water line, I would use a loo brush to push as much water as you can through the u bend, and then pour vinegar in. You could also use general purpose descaling powder too. If its above the water line, you could soak kitchen roll in vinegar and apply it on top of the stains and leave for a good long while.

Or use the Harpic Max Strength which has worked well for me.

harpic limescale remover works brilliantly.

hellosunshineagainxxx · 25/10/2022 17:46

Black harpic toilet cleaner

HappyAsASandboy · 25/10/2022 17:52

Harpic max strength in a black bottle. Leave it in overnight then as quick scrub with a loo brush and it'll go. Repeat if needed.

User38899953 · 25/10/2022 18:12

Black garlic. Leave it overnight then clean.

I usually do it every few weeks to keep the limescale down.

User38899953 · 25/10/2022 18:13

Harpic. Not garlic 🤦🏻‍♀️

Although garlic in the loo may be great for keeping vampires away this Halloween !

not4profit · 25/10/2022 18:15

Spirit of salts. Buy online, pour in, open window and shut the door. Return after 20 minutes or so and it will have lifted off the marks/limescale which will be floating like scum on the surface of the water. It's magical! No scrubbing required.

SmileyClare · 25/10/2022 18:33

I’ve never heard of Spirit of Salts and I’m a professional cleaner! Looks like that would work if nothing else does; it’s pretty strong stuff..take care when using! Looks like it also unblocks sinks.

Black garlic? 😂

TR888 · 25/10/2022 19:10

Love the black garlic typo... 😂 I thought to myself, that must be an Ottolenghi tip.

push as much water down the pipe as you can with a toilet brush, then coat stains in garlic max strength and leave for as long as possible, then scrub. Repeat if necessary

Happywife22 · 25/10/2022 19:22

Sorry Harpic max strength

BlackForestCake · 30/10/2022 18:42

I have followed the tips in this thread and am pleased to report I have never had trouble with vampires in the toilet.

Pumpkinpatchlookinggood · 30/10/2022 18:54

Use your mop to get all the water out the bottom. Unscrew mop head. Use the side of mop to scrape limescale off. Regular use of black Harpic will stop it coming back.

Citric acid works well too.

TR888 · 11/11/2022 12:50

I can report that Harpic works a treat! Thanks everyone for recommending it.

I realise I’m too late as OP has sorted it now, but the HG Toilet Renovation kit is great. www.wickes.co.uk/HG-Toilet-Renovation-Cleaning-Kit---500ml/p/249605
