Removing fabric conditioner from towels

I was recently given a load of old towels for our new puppy and they're completely drenched in fabric conditioner to the point where they're actually heavy with it and feel greasy to the touch. I've washed them a number of times including on a hot wash but no change. Any magic tips?! Thanks

Soda crystals from the washing section of supermarkets or from Wilko.

White vinegar should do the trick

Posted a bit soon - you just put them in with the wash. Good for greasy workwear etc, as well.

Oh brilliant thank you - I can't bear fabric conditioner on towels at the best of times (love a scratchy towel Grin) but these are another level!

I did this with my old towels - really cleaned them up!

I was going to say strip them in the bath, or a large bowl if you don’t have one.
And then wash with white vinegar and detergent.
vinegar softens as softener would, but doesn’t affect absorbency
