Can I machine wash a Uniqlo down jacket?

Label says no but I’m never going to get round to hand washing, especially as my DH and DC have one as well.

I’ve got the special down wash liquid.

Can I risk it?

I’ve wrecked my Rab down jacket doing this. I’ve done everything to try and re fluff it but nothing works so I’d say no.

I wash mine on the hand wash setting but getting it dry is the issue because it all clumps together.

I did a cold quick wash on my Uniqlo coat and then tumble dried it on low with those dryer balls to fluff it up and break up feathers.

It's not exactly 100% how it was but it it is almost there. Tumble dryer helped for me rather than leaving to dry itself

Don't do it! I gently hand washed mine and it has never been the same - the down never fluffed back up and I tried everything, even dropping it out the top window. If you machine wash it it will go totally flat.

We have different brand down jackets and they can be washed. I use the down liquid with no fabric conditioner.

Let it air dry for the most part, but it will go clumpy. But don't panic. When it's almost dry, pop it in the tumble dryer on cool with 3 or 4 tennis balls and that will remove the clumps and fluff it up again.

If you don't have a dryer then you can just shake shake shake a lot when it's nearly dry.

I've washed mine a few times. Same as other pp, special down wash and then low heat dryer with a tennis ball. Came out fine.

MMAMPWGHAP · 17/10/2022 10:32

Be careful. I’ve successfully done it, used tennis balls in dryer etc. I also wash down duvets the same way. But then I did another one and it was a disaster. The second one did not have stitched channels, they must have been glued. Glue must have come undone because all the stuffing ended up at the bottom!
Moral: Inspect the stitching first.

Thanks all, washed and good as new — nearly! Really pleased.
