Carpet cleaning

hi all

Could all you good people give some advice on carpet cleaning…

I have the option to do it myself or spend £40-£50 for a company to do it for me

My question is…

we don’t have the heating on at present so would the carpet dry quick enough or would I be left with a musty smelly
mess?

I'm guessing the professional carpet cleaners get the carpet practically dry so if it was done early enough in the day, drying shouldn’t be a problem.

Any advise?

Could you wait until either the heating is in or summer? I've never done it outside of these times. I'd have the same concern as you.

£40 is very cheap i think i'd go for the professionals.

If you do it yourself you will have to factor in the price of the cleaning products, the rental of the cleaner, the fuel to collect and return the cleaner, the electric to power the cleaner and the gas to put the heating on to dry quickly and avoid the musty smell.

Yeah, i'd be coughing up £40 before doing all that.

I know I'm probably too late to add much to the conversation, but I work with a carpet cleaning company and they will tell you that it's not really heating that will help in drying, but rather a combination of heating and ventilation. Heat only just leads to an increase in moisture levels as the water evaporates, so you need ventilation as well in order to move that moisture out and away from the carpets.

It's worth bearing in mind though that the reason professional carpet cleaning machines cost £2k+ is that they have super powerful vacuums to extract the water out, which means the dry time is pretty quick. Rental machines on the other hand can leave carpets damp for hours and sometimes even days. If you do go with the pros, this can be done anytime of the year without concern of over long dry times, musty smells etc.

If you happen to be in the SE, these are the people I work with - https://www.a1-carpet-cleaning.co.uk/
