Laundry

Hi, we are new to UK. We are trying to figure best possible solutions for laundry at home. We have 2 kids and laundry feels like a big job on daily basis. What do most people do for solving laundry? Are there good solutions outside home? More time taking is ironing clothes. Washing is easy.

Iron only what is necessary
I only iron dhs work shirts and the dcs schoolwear. Everything is put away unironed

I normally do at least one load per day. Hung on airers to dry as we don't have a tumble dryer.

I don't iron many things (actually anything at the moment)

I don't find it unmanagable without ironing. It's quite easy really - I don't wash stuff until it's dirty.

I do have a tumble dryer as it was driving me mad having everything on airers and causing damp. I find that a really good modern tumble dryer prevents creasing anyway, so you don't need to iron (except shirts etc but we don't wear shirts).

I grow up in country where we dry washing even when is -20c outside so I use drying lines outside as much as possible. I will check weather forecast before and plan. If is damp and drying conditions not in favour I spin washing second time and put dehumidifier on in the room and put washing on drying rack. For bedding and towels I probably go and dry in laundrette or just wait for better drying weather.

One load a day, outside as much as possible, ATM every day then that load spread out over my 3 airers over night. Wet days either I don't wash or do things that can be tumbled after drying some time over the airer - Have a heat pump dryer for this as it's a++ rated so cheaper to run.

At least one load a day to keep up with it (2 adults and 2 sporty teenagers)

i’m still line drying outside most days atm, otherwise we have an indoor line in our utility room which I can dry a load on per 24 hours. It’ll be a bit quicker than that once the heating is on for a few hours each day.

I’ve recently started giving the washing a second spin if it’s being hung indoors and it does make a difference.

Only wash things when they are dirty, lower your standards for towels and bedding, (I do towels once a week and bedding once a fortnight, And I could probably relax this if I wanted to). Put washing on the line whenever the patio is dry, even if it doesn’t fully dry, it has a good start. Get some of those octopus peg things for pants and socks. I also put tea towels and boxer shorts on them too and hang them of the curtain pole if I have to dry inside. I iron very little, school shirts and white T-shirts are the only things that get regularly ironed.
