Drying Clothes with Dehumidifier. Anyone used a cover?

Big fan of drying clothes with a dehumidifier but this time of year it takes up all of our small room so was thinking about using the conservatory to dry them in instead.

Problem is that it will take forever to dry as the conservatory will never get warm enough so was wondering if its possible to put some kind of cover over the clothes horse and the dehumidifier to contain the heat and hopefully dry quicker?

I've just bought a canvas covered hanging rail which fits a tower airer and a small dehumidifier- to try this exact scenario out! I'll keep you posted

Oh great! Do you have a link to it at all please?

I’m experimenting with using the dehumidifier along with a standing fan. So far the combination seems to be drying things much much quicker.

To contain what heat though, if the conservatory isn't heated? Dehumidifiers definitely work better (more efficiently) if there is at least some heating in the room.

My dehumidifier pumps out warm air though?

I find that the dehumidifier works better in a small space. It is next to useless in our conservatory at this time of year so I put the washing in the bathroom with it. We have a downstairs loo so the space issue isn't important.

Yeah as said, my Dehumidifier pumps out heat. Mine is a desiccant one though which can operate lower temperatures.

Im just trying to think of something that will contain itself within a small area but inside a bigger room

Yeah that's my point here, its useless in an open conservatory so trying to contain it somehow if possible and keeping other rooms free

Google laundry drying tents op - tjat might be a good place to start?

spl1tman · 22/10/2022 20:56

You could build a tent out of polythene, but if you are using a refrigerant dehumidifier, the work best when the temp is between 10deg - 30deg, so unless your conservatory is heated, you may well be wasting your time using that room in the winter months

CbCV · 22/10/2022 21:10

Yes I do sometimes but won't if I'm not in the house.

If it's bedding I'm drying then I'll have a sheet over the airer and maybe over to a chair with the dehumidifier between the airer and chair so trapped in the 'tent'

I also use a DrySoon heated airer and the dehumidifier and laundry dries really fast.

Not had to have our heating on yet either as the airer has been enough to keep the living room warm.

BamBamBilla · 23/10/2022 10:08

I tried it once trying with an already dry bedsheet over the airer with the dehumidifier underneath. Don't really make a difference that I could tell.

I can say that using a 640w dehumidifier with a fabric cover gets a full load of washing dried in 2-3 hours.
