Help my flat smells

We cooked a curry on Thursday evening and the whole flat still smells incredibly strongly. We had the windows open all day yesterday to try to air it out plus scented candles.
Any suggestions of what we can do to make the smell go?

Have you really deep cleaned all the surfaces / cupboard doors etc in the kitchen? This is what usually makes a difference for us after a strong curry etc. Apart from that a lot of open windows etc!

Albgo · 01/10/2022 08:05

Thanks. We've cleaned the surfaces in the kitchen, but not cupboard doors etc. I'll try it. But it's not just the kitchen that smells it's every room.

It's odd as we love curry and cook it fairly regularly. This has never happened before.

Could it be something else, not the curry?
And have you washed your hair since you made the curry?

Albgo · 01/10/2022 08:10

Yep I washed my hair yesterday morning.
Definitely smells of curry.

chefs candle?

Albgo · 01/10/2022 08:12

@ReeseWitherfork never heard of it. Thanks I'll investigate.
We've got quite smelly candies and had them lit yesterday for a few hours. Thought it had worked but nope!

It might smell of curry, but it might not be the curry. The curry might be a red herring

ReeseWitherfork · 01/10/2022 08:16

Sorry that was a half hearted message haha, the chefs candles eliminate odours which is guess is different from things like Yankee candles which probably just join them? Bicarb is amazing for sucking up odours but I’m not sure where you’d put it, we can close our kitchen off so the smells don’t escape to soft furnishings, I wonder if that’s where your curry smell is lingering?

hesbeen2021 · 01/10/2022 08:20

If you have any ground, fresh coffee, put it out in a bowl in the kitchen. I promise it will work

ChocHotolate · 01/10/2022 08:23

Have you emptied the bins?

CornishTiger · 01/10/2022 08:26

Prices chefs candle -the green one usually works.

My Tesco sells them but not Asda. Give it a go.

golddustwomen · 01/10/2022 08:26

I was going to say bins too!
When we have curry, any kind but especially Chinese I put it straight out as I find the smell lingers for days. But my sense of smell is overly strong I think!

CornishTiger · 01/10/2022 08:26

chop an onion in half works for paint smells might work for curry

HouseyHouse21 · 01/10/2022 17:33

Do you have an extractor fan? If so, make sure that's clean as well.

Pollymollydolly · 02/10/2022 10:25

In the kitchen boil a pan of 50:50 water and white vinegar for a few minutes - make sure not to fill beyond halfway as it is liable to boil over.

in other rooms put a dish of white vinegar on each window ledge overnight.

white vinegar is amazing for neutralising smells.

hookiewookie29 · 02/10/2022 16:24

Febreeze your sift furnishings, including curtains. Smells cling to them!

Ponderingwindow · 02/10/2022 16:26

Spray a mist of vinegar into the air. Yes, it will smell like vinegar for a few minutes. Then the smell will go away .

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 02/10/2022 16:28

Wash soft furnishings like bedding, Cushion covers etc. Clean sofa/unwashable soft items with microfibre cloth and soapy water/ diluted zoflora. Clean kitchen cupboards, floor. Change and clean bins
