MINIMALISM

sigh.....not really housekeeping, but house related

I think I'm having a mid life crisis. I keep looking at magazines and sighing over minimalist interiors, with lots of pale colour schemes and things that have never really been my cup of tea before.

I've always been into quite "traditional English" kind of colour schemes, i.e. we have a red hall and an ochre sitting room and wallpaper in lots of the rooms.

Anyone else feel that their taste is shifting?

alernatively it could just be that I am fed up with it being winter......

We are living in minimalism now. All white. Hardly any furniture. And if I concentrate - no clutter!

It is supremely easy way to live as long as you plan it correctly - lots and lots and lots of storage...

you can be minimalist though and have colour around. it's the clutter that makes places look bad - too many papers/mags/etc etc and toys bursting out of boxes etc etc and obstacle course hallways!

i think my dh would shoot me if i proposed changing everything now.

Thought I might start working my way round the house. bathroom needs repainted and will go for paler colour, Kitchen too. After that have to do ds2's room. That'll be all i do in 08, but next year may tone down sitting room.....and the wallpaper is coming off in our bedroom....

thing is when i deocrated the first time we had just cutted the place and i was so fed up with white plaster everywhere that i loved the colour so much.

Just feel ready for a change

Our house is actually very tidy as I am obsessed with everything being put away and can't stand bits and bobs left lying around, plus the children have a playroom for toys

am just starting to hanker after an ever larger portion of the farrow and ball colour scheme!

Before we went all white we had each room white on 3 walls and then fourth wall had an "accent" colour which was picked up in furnishings etc

that's a good idea cbm...might try that first. I suspect part of the thing is that my bf has a beautifully minimalist, colour neutral house....which i secretly lust after.

Friday night is always my blitz evening, and i'm am feeling a decluttering mood coming on....

I find it so cathartic throwing stuff out....
