Has anyone seen boxes of washing detergent tablets for sale or have they been discontinued in favour of washing detergent capsules/pods ?
I prefer the tablets but can't find any in my local supermarkets.

I've reverted to buying powder as tablets seem difficult to buy. I don't want liquid detergents as they:

  • don't clean as well
  • the gelling agent (or whatever it is) accumulates in the pipes
  • for pods I can't simply break them in half for a half load
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 27/09/2022 08:57

Powder is you’re best bet. It has an abrasive action which works on dirt.

inheritanceshiteagain · 27/09/2022 09:06

Apparently powder stocks a lot of scummy build up in the machine. Wash perfectly well.

LadyEloise1 · 27/09/2022 10:04

It's as if the manufacturers have coerced us into using pods/capsules whether we want to or not.
The Tesco detergent tablets whichI used happily, were made in France.
I'm on my last box now. Sad

I'll have to buy the powder which is a wee bit messier.

I use tablets too but I've noticed they're often out of stock.

Tree543 · 27/09/2022 22:46

I've noticed this too. Always bought the tesco tablets but they have been out of stock online for a while. Went to a large tesco store today and there were no tablets at all of any brand. Loads and loads of the pods which I hate as they make the machine smelly.
Had to buy the powder which is ok but more of a faff to put in the machine.

custardbear · 27/09/2022 22:50

Always preferred liquid or powder to be honest, I think the rest are expensive and not as good

Cynderella · 27/09/2022 23:00

Powder is better and cheaper. It doesn't have to be messy. Get yourself a container - I have a tin with with a lid that says laundry powder, but it could be anything the right size. Decant powder from box into container with suitable sized scoop in container or close by.

Put half of wash load in machine. Put scoop of powder on top of laundry and then fill the machine. Really not messy.

I miss the tablets too and also think there is a conspiracy to make us use pods! Well I've got back to powder as well. Ha! But really I think it's part of the general reduction in choice of everything in supermarkets. It's annoying.

LIZS · 29/09/2022 19:33

Morrisons do non bio

LadyEloise1 · 29/09/2022 19:40

The pod is of harsh chemicals and is usually wrapped in a poly vinyl alcohol.
Poly vinyl can't be good for our water systems. 😱
I don't understand- on the one hand we are being told that our planet is at risk because of all the chemicals we use and on the other hand we are being pushed into buying these pods/capsules against our wishes.
Plus they have been made to look like sweeties and children have poisoned themselves with them.
What total idiot bright spark came up with that innovation. 🙄
