Horrible, horrible mattress

My mattress is in a disgusting state. On one side are lots of dark blood stains.
The other side has a slight smell of urine from accidents children have had.

I've tried to clean it lots of times.

I've saved up enough money for a new mattress but now can't figure out how to get rid of the old one.
The mattress is too big for me to move on my own. I can't get a mattress protector round it without help.

I don't have any friends nearby who can help.

I feel so embarrassed delivery men seeing state of it.

Does anyone have any suggestions I may not have considered?

Please don't judge- I was suffering and struggling lot with my mental health now trying to get back on track.

Grateful for any ideas.

When we bought a new bed from Dreams, they took the old mattress away but provided a very large plastic covering which we had to put on and tape up before they took it. It wasn't that hard to do. I think this was because of potential bed bugs which they obviously didn't want in their trucks.

Does your council offer bulk refuse collection? Ours is £35 a pop so I think I'd just brazen out the delivery guys (you'll never see them again) and keep my money, but a bulk collection would mean you could put it outside and not have to be there when it was collected.

A cheap zipper mattress protector might cost less but as you say, tricky to get on. Could you manage with it stood on its end against a wall and a chair to reach?

Or bin bags gaffer taped over?

The delivery guys won't care but I know that's not much comfort if you care.

Buy a big roll of gaffer tape and cover the stains that way?

Our council will take away up to five bulky items for £35. You have to go on the website and book a delivery time and specify what it is you want removing.

Or if you post on a local Facebook group you’ll probably find a man with a van will be happy to take it away for £20 or so.

Well done on taking positive steps forward 💐

I have the same problem OP. I think im going to buy two cheap fitted white sheets and put one over either side of the mattress to get rid of it. That way it looks clean 😉
The council in my area do one big pick up for free a year.
So you should call your local council and ask if someone could come out and collect it.
If you can't cover it, then tell the removal men, it was there when you moved in and want rid of it xx

I poured bleach over the stains and let it sit before the delivery guys of the new one picked up one particularly blood stained one.

U can buy a zip up matress bag from Amazon. It is side zip so u can slide the matress in for about £12-£15 its white opaque and we bought one when moving home until we got a new bed

@Rolana for your new mattress buy a waterproof mattress protector. They are so worth it.
You can get them in M&S, Dunelm, Primark, Amazon etc.
Try and get a cotton backed one.
Worth their weight in gold.
