Is there such a thing as a mop which is a scouring pad?

My kitchen floor needs help

The tiles are not easy to clean with a mop, and only really come up clean when I get on my hands and knees with a scouring pad.

Please tell me there's such a thing as a mop with a scouring pad. Have tried attaching one to my normal mop and it keeps flying off.

I have no idea cot, but I have this sort of floor too, as I think does roisin as we complained bitterly about it a few years back.

Is your floor a tiled floor with kind of dimples in the terracotta? And wet muddy pawprints get into those dimples and won't shift without a scourer?

Will watch this thread with interest, although I'm guessing it will still require the same amount of elbow grease but be kinder on one's knees, IYKWIM!

Yaddayah · 24/01/2008 07:53

My mum had one of these years ago
Have not seen them since .. though I reckon its the sort of thing you'd find in those dusty tat shops that have washing up bowls for 50p

Disclaimer :my washing up bowl cost 50p

I have to scrub our kitchen floor once a week with a scouring pad as well. It's a job that I absolutely detest, but has to be done. I've also tried attaching one to the mop with no success. Hopefully someone will come along and know of an easier solution!

Oenophile · 24/01/2008 08:31

I was interested in this too as I'm fed up of the whole hands-and-knees thing, an ordinary mop just doesn't get my laminate floors clean.

I've done a bit of research and think this is probably the sort of thing we need - Black and Decker Power Mop The bad news? it doesn't seem to be available anywhere in the UK and more bad news: the Customer Reviews are mostly lukewarm.

Vileda do a Magic Mop available on Amazon UK which has a 'hard scrubbing edge' but the reviews of this say 'should be called The Magic Flop' - apparently the heads drop off as you scrub.

Hope someone else has better luck but until they post, it's down on our knees again ladies.

I think the mop head that you attach the scourer to would have to have an undulating/knobbly surface, to get into the dimples, mimicing hands/fingers.

I can just see it in the new Lakeland catalogue:

By popular demand, if you have dimples on your kitchen floor this is the mop for you. Made from tough poly coated resin, its remarkable design mimics the action of your undulating and knobbly hands. Simply attach the turbo scourer and off you go! Deluxe version has AC adaptor and vibrates as you mop!

Oh dear, looks like it's back to having square knees.

If it makes anyone feel better about their floor, it's the kitchen tiles, which is 22 by 12 ft, and I have a food-chucking 15mo.

There was a thread on MN - some time ago - about the most useless invention/product. It was a hoot.

Now, surely this is an untapped market. I for one will not give up! C'mon ladeeeze, who can we badger? Does Trevor Bayliss have a website? Or Sir Clive Sinclair?

There must be someone ....

JackieNo · 25/01/2008 07:04

We have the same problem. I've never really managed to get on top of it. YOu could try a deck brush (cheaper from other places, that's just the first link I found), but I suspect you'd then have to mop up the dirty water afterwards, so having to do the whole lot twice.

Triggles · 25/01/2008 07:10

cheeseontoast - we put a large tablecloth (the waterproof kind - bought at poundland) underneath 18mo DS's highchair. It does make the cleanup a bit easier as I can just toss it in the washer on a quick wash at the end of the each day (until then during day between meals, I just fold it with the mucky side in)and let it dry overnight hanging in drying cupboard. it's not much but it does save on a little scrubbing.

Saggybumandnorks · 25/01/2008 08:49

cheeseontoast - no offers on the scouring mop I'm afraid but I use a swim float under my knees when doing the floor. Saves on the squareness I find.

I've also been known to use one of those silver looking scourers when mopping. Put some neat Flash on it, chuck it on the floor and when I get to a tough bit I put my foot on it and give it a rub.

2sugarsagain · 26/01/2008 05:23

Triggles, do you have a pattern for making Springer Spaniel wellies from said material by any chance?

nannyL · 26/01/2008 11:04

my mum has one of those flash mob things

where they sell you that flash floor cleaner and you use those dispoable pad things (I personally detest disposable stuff for environmental reason but anyway, also detest it cause its falsh aka proctor and gamble) on the bottom

and it has a scourer thing on the side... made of the non scratch scourer stuff used on scourers... the mop sorts of flips around and you get this scourer bit to use...

BUT the scourer bit is very small... maybe 1 inch by 4 inches aprrox

Sorry to bump an old thread, but can across it whilst searching for a scourer mop.

We used these when I worked at McDonalds, and they were brilliant on the textured tiles

www.pattersons.co.uk/product/SC940898-Red-SYR-Interchange-Mop-Head-With-Scourer/20532-Mops

(You'd also need a handle, www.pattersons.co.uk/product/SC830505-SYR-Aluminium-Black-Grip-Silver-Handle-54/20532-Mops)

They do different colour ones, have a green scourer in the middle of the mop (we used to twirl them to get the mop strands to splay out in a circle so that the scourer could be used in the middle if that makes sense) and can be chucked in the washing machine so extra hygienic :)

Hope this helps someone, off to buy one myself now :)

You will need:
1: A Microfibre Mop that uses Velcro to attach the mop heads and
2: A roll of scouring pad, e.g Lumizee brand, available on Amazon.

Simply cut a length of the scouring pad roll to the size of your mop head and it will stick to the Velcro strips.

Enjoy scrubbing!

This is the result of a half day internet wormhole and I am SO proud!

JennyTractorRiderGo · 07/07/2021 08:12

As this has been bumped from 2008, why is no manufacturer realising that a proper scrubber mop head would be great for some floors?

The Lumizee brand mentioned above is only available on Amazon.com, not the UK one, however, you can get large scouring pads but I don't know if they would fit everyone else's flat mop head, mine is an old Lakeland one so www.amazon.co.uk/Spontex-Specialist-Heavy-Duty-Scourer/dp/B00JSMK1OQ/ref=psdc_11712961_t1_B07KX8BZ9P?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 these would fit mine at 23 x 15 cm.

Lots of products are from trade places, this was just a quick google as I would love a scrubby mop head for my kitchen floor rather than getting down onto my knees with a green scouring pad. HTH.

FrogFairy · 07/07/2021 10:13

I know this is a zombie thread, but for anyone else with the same problem I came across the Leifheit Profi mop. They sell several different heads including one for stone/tiles and an outdoor one which might do the job. I haven’t bought one yet so no direct experience but we’ll worth considering.

Nicklebox · 07/07/2021 10:41

Sorry posted too quick i have something similar to this

Confusedandshaken · 07/07/2021 12:06

Koh does a green emop head with a tough, scratchy abrasive surface that velcros onto a standard emop . I use that to clean my kitchen floor (it sometimes takes a couple if it's very dirty). I then buff it dry and shiny with the softer ecloth heads available everywhere. Well, I say I do it but in fact my cleaner is much more likely to do it than me but whichever of is does it, it works a treat.

I've attached a link. Sadly they are not in stock atm but they are worth buying when back in stock.
