School blazer BO smell

DeborahVance · 12/09/2022 17:52

My 11 yo has started secondary school and his shirts and blazer are already really stinky.

Any suggestions on how to get the smells out and also for strong deodorant for a child?

Bicarb on the clothes, mitchum on the child

ElizabethSchuyler · 13/09/2022 00:26

I find putting a cap of disinfectant in with the wash cycle really helps get the smell out.

Longdistance · 13/09/2022 00:28

Vodka. I’m not joking either. The cheap rough stuff will do. Pour on, rub in and whack it on a wash.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 13/09/2022 00:36

Another cheap vodka recommender.
I used to put mine in a little spray bottle & spritz the blazer underarms when DC were going through that Y7 phase (it's always the Y7s soap dodgers & they tell you they've used anti perspirant/deo but they haven't really)
Or the other option is that Halo sports wash.

I use a splash of the dettol laundry liquid. Just add it to the soft rinse drawer.

makingmiracles · 13/09/2022 01:34

Give armpits a soak in some water and white vinegar or add a bit to the wash, vinegar contains something that neutralises the smells and no they don’t smell of vinegar after being washed.

also dettol bar soap, not shower gel to wash with

Most school blazers can be washed now at 40. I wash my ds’s most weeks. They take hardly any time to dry and seem none the worse.

DeborahVance · 13/09/2022 17:39

This is brilliant, thanks everyone

My ds's blazer gets washed every two days, it gets hung on the back of a chair and is dry by morning. Mitcham for the armpits!

PassThePringles · 24/10/2022 00:07

White vinegar spray worked on my dcs blazer pits.

DD0 · 24/10/2022 00:51

Another vote for white vinegar here. Add into each wash in the detergent compartment, makes everything come out smelling fresher. Essentially the same as laundry detergent as its antibacterial and antifungal just a lot cheaper. I think it costs me about 29p per bottle!

OnlyTheBravest · 24/10/2022 01:38

Halo Sports wash for the clothes. Mitcham for the child.

MrsMorrisey · 24/10/2022 01:40

Don't use Mitchum on a child. It's full of aluminium.
Find an aluminium free deodorant.

Stupid question. If its full of aluminium and not safe for children why is it any good for adults?

Aquamarine1029 · 24/10/2022 01:51

First things first, make sure your child is washing their body properly.

MrsMorrisey · 24/10/2022 07:12

Pixiedust1234 not good for adults either.
Your armpits are very close to lymph nodes and breast tissue. Putting aluminium on your skin allows it to be absorbed into your bloodstream. Best avoided.

CornedBeef451 · 24/10/2022 08:18

I make mine wash properly every day with random post shower sniff tests. This step is important!

He's currently using Bionsen aluminium free stick deodorant as a Sure men's one made his armpits itchy.

I wouldn't use Mitchum on a child, I got chemical burns from it when I tried a few years ago, scabs took months to come off.

I sniff tested his blazer very gingerly and it actually smelt fine after 6 weeks.

KangarooKenny · 24/10/2022 08:19

You need to wash with biological powder, not liquid.

OoooSweetChildOMine · 24/10/2022 09:19

Dettol washing sanitizer

Chloefairydust · 25/10/2022 19:55

White vinegar is the best for removing B/O odour, apply some neat to the fabric in the armpits area before putting in the washing machine. Put some in the washing machine too for good measure.

And get a strong deodorant for the teen, change in hormones will be making them extra sweaty.
