Washing up after making bread!!

So, I've made bread, and now I have to deal with the clean-up.

How do I get the remnants of dough out of the mixing bowl without making a nasty slimy mess of my scourer?

scrape as much as you can out of the bowl with your finger nails

Fill the bowl with v hot water and leave to soak, some will then disolve into the water

Use a brush rather than a scourer (easier to pull off dough when dry)

be very careful about putting too much down the sink, mixture between flour and water is lethal for blocking drains

2 methods:

1: leave it to dry and then it can be flaked off

2: rub the bits off with a handful of flour - the flour will mix into the sticky dough on the sides and make non-sticky dough which comes off cleanly.

Leave it to soak, it comes off easily then. I use a nail brush to get any yucky bits off. If you get your dough 'right' there shouldn't be too much sticking to the bowl anyway, it's a bit like pastry, the best dough leaves the bowl clean!

Best thing is to get into the habit of soaking it as soon as you have taken the dough out and shaped it.

You've just reminded me why I bought a breadmaker
