Right, that's it, I want a sewing machine.

Just picked out 3 iron on name labels from the kids uniforms out of the washer.

My budget is tiny but it needs to be a new machine.

All I want it for is name tags, hems, the odd patch and maybe a few little toy bags for the kids.

Ideas please? TIA.

I have a brother (but, tbh I really want to buy myself another second hand singer because my last one was so good) but, the basic brother does ok for straightforward jobs. They do a really basic model but you can't adjust the stitch length manually (and I'm fussy about that) which my mum has and it's fine, think it's about 60 quid.)

lidl and aldi sometimes have really cheapo ones. why does it have to be new?

ask on freecycle? TBH, if that's really all you want it for, why not do them by hand? I have a lovely sewing machine, but I wouldn't dream of sewing on name tapes with it; I could have finished one name tape in the time it takes to set up, plug in/ thread up the machine!

Hems are much neater done by hand, as well.

I recently got a lovely modern sewing machine on freecycle. You quite often see them offered.

I thought using a sewing machine might be quicker. Maybe I'll stick with hand sewing then.
