Ethanol fire vs wood burner

Heklo

Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but would love some advice on ethanol vs wood burning stove.

we live in 17th century Cottage which has v thick walls and is Baltic in winter, with no double glazing etc.

I work in sitting room, which has a wood burning stove which is 5 years old. Can’t remember the model but we “invested” in a good model. Snug has an open coal fire. House is on electric heating as no gas in our village. We have an electric AGA and can turn it up/down and tops in/off.

My Dad died 2 years ago and very sadly suffered from dementia in his final years. I am really concerned about reports linking increase of dementia risk with wood burning stove. Add in energy crisis and fact I feel the cold and we are rethinking all our arrangements.

Considering running wood burner stove but buying an air filter to run alongside. Another option is to replace it with a stove that runs on ethanol. To leave the stove off and keep heating on 24 hour tick. To just stick with am and pm hearing. Or not to run anything and buy a heated blanket.

Would really appreciate any thoughts or advice from anyone who has gone through the same thoughts. I fully appreciate Kate how fortunate we are to be able to afford to run any heating.

What type of ethanol stove are you looking at? We have a small semi portable (?) one and it doesn't produce anywhere near the heat of out wood burner.

Blurb says ‘Gross output 2.5kW”. It’s a free standing basket arrangement, so also need to resign flue. Sorry to hear that yours isn’t too warm. Where do you use it?

We use it mostly for the effect when it's mildly chilly. Our log burner is 5kw I think so obviously that's warmer. Ours doesn't need a flue.

Congratulations that you have managed to do all the other lifestyle things to reduce risk of dementia,. That you don't smoke, you're getting lots of exercise, sleep well, have a healthy diet, maintain healthy weight, consume minimal or no alcohol, have healthy BP, good cholesterol numbers. it's a lot to achieve all that (getting my cholesterol & BP checked this morning)
