Any hope for this washing machine?

Suddenly stopped a few minutes into the cycle with a very loud clunk.
I have drained it and cleared out the trap ( couple of shirt buttons and hair ties) set it off on a short cycle- same thing happened again.
It will drain in short bursts, but stops almost straight away. I have checked the trap again and checked the pipe.
Washing machine engineer? Or new machine?

When mine conked out recently it was the brushes, it was rinsing but couldn't spin. Cost £85 to fix.

hugoagogo · 13/08/2022 17:37

It's not getting as far as rinsing, fills and swishes the water a bit, then stops.😕

Thinking about it, mine wasn't rinsing properly at all (I'll blame the heat for not remembering properly) as I've just remembered I had to rinse the thing I was washing in the bath.

Yarnasaurus · 13/08/2022 17:45

But mine was draining and it sounds like yours isn't?

hugoagogo · 13/08/2022 17:55

Nope I have emptied twice today with a combination of scooping and the pipe at bottom twice today. It wasn't much fun.

Well it could be that the pump has stopped working? Mine suddenly stopped draining earlier this week, there was a mountain of shite in its internal workings and the pump was on its last legs - according to the engineer who came out to look at it. £130 later and it's back to normal.
I can post a pic of the grot that came out if anyones interested

Could be not heating. If the heater doesn’t come on at the set time the program won’t go any further. What make is the machine and how much did u pay for it.

hugoagogo · 13/08/2022 19:54

Hmm, tis john lewis if the heater is broken, would that be worth fixing do you think?
I think the big clunk, might mean the belt has busted or something?

How old?

Mine went kaput recently after 9 years and had to replace.

Fitter said these days average lifespan 5 years.

user1498572889 · 13/08/2022 20:19

John Lewis machines are normally made by the Electrolux group. If it’s over 5 years old it’s probably cheaper to get a new one.

user1498572889 · 13/08/2022 20:20

If it’s swishing the water a bit the belt isn’t broken.

clary · 13/08/2022 20:22

Yep our washer died last week, just stopped going round, only water then drain.

It's 12+ years old and a Beko (cheap model) at that. Washing machine repairer said not worth fixing, 10 years + is doing really well.

hugoagogo · 13/08/2022 20:31

I think it's about 7 years old.
May just bite the bullet and get a new one, bit of a bugger as planning to move and would rather not have to give the new people such a new machine. <meany>

Do you have space to store the current machine, so you could leave it behind for the next people and take the new one with you ?

hugoagogo · 13/08/2022 22:15

We've space, but expect to move into rented. I know the price of a washing machine isn't really much considering all the costs of moving.
Hey ho, we will need fresh pants, so if no-one can come out this week, will order a new one.

Just as a side bit of general info I had a dishwasher that wasn't draining. I got this type of plunger (see photo) and tried unblocking it. This is where I found it also sucks up the standing water that wasn't draining and I could squirt it out into the sink. Took about 5/6 sucks and squirts Grin
