Think somethings electrocuted itself under my floorboards

So to cut a long story short I have been battling with visitors under the floorboards for a while, laying traps, buying expensive ‘ not harmful to kids’ poison and generally trying every other home remedy tip.
I’m at home and I hear a bang under my chair and the electric trips off.

I investigate the fuse box and do the whole unplug and plug in routine with the appliances, goes bang again. Whilst I’m doing this I begin to get a whiff of a strange smell…
What do I do?

Shall I get an electrician in first or pest control? How long will it take to get rid of them if I have to wait to be rid before an electrician will touch it?
What will the electrician do? rip up the floors?
Any advice gratefully received

Are you 100% sure it's not an appliance or something plugged in with switch on? If so, then I'd get an electrician to check. The electrician will work out which circuit the problem is on and investigate from there. They're used to have to pull up floors, take cupboards out. If you're sure you need an electrician, I'd phone today as they're busy people and might take a day or two anyway. Sorting pests out will take 2-3 weeks, and you can't go that long without your power supply.

What pests do you think you have? My Mum had to have a private pest control firm out, the chap was brilliant - he assured her he'd sort the problem out and he did. They come back to few times to reset traps, look for fresh droppings - in my Mum's case it was a set price no matter how many visits he did.

I would ring an electrician first as they will identify if it’s gone under the floorboards.

Yes, electrician first.

There can be a weird smell when the electrics go bang, or are about to.
