How on earth to you clean a shower cubicle?

And I have two of the blasted things. One is miniscule, which dd just about fits into. (have never used it myself).

Do you just arm yourself with cleaning products and climbing in naked to do it or what?

As you can see I need some help.

I too have a squeegee - mine is from Lakeland. We have hard water and the tiles used to go all yucky and that kind of rust coloured stuff would grow as it was always left wet. I clean the glass properly maybe once or twice a month

In my defence most mornings before getting out (baby permitting) I squeegee the whole cubicle downwards - takes about 1 minute at most. I also use the squeege to "sweep" all the water off the ledges round the sides and into the tray.

So when I clean it (usually with wet microfibre cloth followed by a clean tea towel type cloth) it isn't soaking to start with so I don't get wet at all.

I can honestly say the squeegee is in the top 10 of labour saving devices [get a life emoticon] !

Use Limelite - spray it around the shower (get the shower head down first) then just rinse around. I always use Mr Muscle Shower Shine after each shower.

MrsBadger · 22/01/2008 19:26

cat64 - it's a shower fixed to the wall in a cubicle, not one over the bath with a hose. You can't aim it round the bathroom (well, not without flooding the place.

Cam · 22/01/2008 19:28

I can't believe people wouldn't clean their shower naked cat64, or with a towel wrapped around you. My shower is too big to clean without getting in it.

Loveangel, I thought of that when I chose my shower head

brimfull · 22/01/2008 19:28

oooh I'm a naked bathroom cleaner as well.

It's completely sensible isn't it?

woodenchair · 22/01/2008 20:37

Has anyone managed to clean a textured shower tray successfully? It's plastic and i can't get it clean.
Mine is driving me nuts needless to say DP chose it and isn't doing the cleaning!

Be liberal with bleach and walk away.

I sometimes do it naked but often just barefoot with my trousers rolled up to my knees (a comical look). The shower head is removeable from the wall though so it makes it easier to rinse without getting soaked.

Does anyone use a steam cleaner? I am contemplating giving our shower a blast with steam.

maximummummy · 22/01/2008 23:19

yep - another NAKED shower cleaner here!!! i use one of those skin scrub mesh things and old toothbrushes to clean the skanky grout!! i spray the whole lot with bleach and leave it to work for 5 mins then get in naked and scrub scrub scrub . . . when i've finished it still looks crap as the grout has gone orange in places and the sealant goes black in the corners - YUCK

this is of course if i manage to get in the shower without dp or ds gatecrashing!

Cappuccino · 22/01/2008 23:22

get dd to do a bit if she is the one who fits in it

my dds love scrubbing the bathroom floor with a brush

I emailed Ecover and they emailed back saying their products were safe for children to learn to clean with, as long as you supervised them

woodenchair · 23/01/2008 19:37

Thanks, I'll try that, it's cleaning day tomorrow, yuck

Zog · 25/01/2008 10:43

jura, what kind of water softener do you have? Are you impressed?

Hulababy · 25/01/2008 10:48

So what products do you all use for the doors? No matter what I try they don't say all nice and clear looking.

We have soft water
We have a window wiper type thing to use after each shower
We have tried those sprays that you spray on when wet and just leave, after each shower

What acually works to get those doors cleann and new looking?

TimeForMe · 25/01/2008 11:50

I clean my shower cubile with Fairy Power Spray, doors and all! It does a great job. I use it for all of the 'heavy duty' jobs, it's excellent!

TimeForMe · 25/01/2008 11:51

PS for the discoloured grout and for getting rid if the black stuff, a quick squirt of Dettox Mildew Remover does the trick. No need to scrub, just squirt and leave and it totally disappears

Jura - canI ask where does the water softener go? Do you put it on where the mains come in or do you have to have a mains non-softened tap?

Naked shower cleaner too - so pleased to hear there are other with their cloths and spray cleaners and coniditioner and soaps...I don't see how else to do it!

Fimbo · 25/01/2008 12:45

I can't see how you can possibly clean the doors without physically getting inside the cubicle, perhaps you could but you would at least need to take your socks off.

My shower door opens outwards, easy to do without getting in

Spray the power spray then leave to to its magic for about 5 mins and just wipe. Its great.

Thanks for that info jura. Do you know whether you can use softened water to water your garden? I've heard this is an issue.

Just found this website and it is fab. Been trying to find hints and tips on how to clean my shower cubicle and its great to know i am not a lone. Have contemplated the naked approach and will be trying v soon, as I usually go for the bare feet, rolled up trouser approach so don't get too wet. Used a steam cleaner today, but not that impressed, Still ended up using chemical cleaner which i try to avoid where possible. Living in hard water area lime-scale is a huge problem and other than cleaning daily I can see no other way of keeping it sparkling.
