I bought a litre of some hand washing liquid as l love the smell of it. But it is very drying on my skin! Is there anything l can add to it, to make it less drying??

Use soap. Or accept you need hand-wash for eczema which will be fragrance and bubble free and not so lovely but your hands will love it.

Glycerin.

If you have an empty pump bottle somewhere, decant it and water it down. I find it still works fine and is, of course, more economical.

My elderly Mum has eczema and it can be quite severe on her hands. Someone recommended this to me and happy to say she has confirmed it does NOT dry or irritate her skin at all: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009IQXX8I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - I use this in pump bottle dispensers in our bathrooms and also refill our shampoo bottles as we all use this now instead of various shampoos, and are all happy with the condition of our hair. Doesn't irritate the scalp at all and has a light pleasant fragrance.

Because Mum was so pleased with the product I looked for similar in washing-up liquid and found this, which she's also very pleased with for same reasons: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01DKL2ST6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - I just refill our 'Fairy' bottle!

Appreciate it may seem a lot to fork out initiially, but both are 5L bottles and have saved me a lot of money over the 2 years or so I've been buying them.

Wear rubber gloves

NightmareSlashDelightful · 20/06/2022 09:08

I water it down and use it to mop the floor

PashunFroot · 20/06/2022 09:11

I keep a little tube of hand cream next to the sink so I can moisturise when I’ve finished.

CaptSkippy · 20/06/2022 09:24

Use bar soap. It lasts longer and doesn't dry out the skin. I have switched years ago and I will never go back.

Seeline · 20/06/2022 09:25

Do you mean soap for washing your hands or detergent for hand-wash only laundry?

Justthisonceharold · 20/06/2022 09:27

I'd use hand cream for now. As soon as it's finished, move over to using bars of soap, especially ones with olive oil in. Liquid soap is such an unnecessary use of plastic.

caringcarer · 20/06/2022 11:55

I use the Dove one and it has moisturizer built in.

FayCarew · 20/06/2022 12:04

Water it down

Wet your hands before using it and rinse them thoroughly afterwards. Pat your hands dry with a soft towel

Bar soap or hand soap lin a dispenser is less harsh. TK Maxx is good for savon de marseilles type handwashes but make sure it is soap not detergent-based

EL8888 · 27/06/2022 12:46

@Seeline for washing hands

@wibblewobbleball how much glycerine should l add? It’s a 1000ml bottle

OP posts:
EL8888 · 27/06/2022 13:10

@CaptSkippy bars of soap will be the way forward, once l have used the bottle up

I find foam handwashes less drying. You can buy dispensers that turns any hand soap into foam
