I need a new vacuum cleaner and I'm so confused

My Dyson has had it so I am looking for a new vacuum cleaner.
I have 2 kids under 4 so there's a lot of mess and the hoover comes out at least once a day. A mixture of carpets and wooden floors. I fancy a Henry for the suction but I've heard it's crap on carpets. If not then Henry then I like the idea of a cordless vacuum, but which one? Any insight is appreciated! Budget is around £300.

Shark anti hair for me.

Cordless vacuum either way they are amazing. So easy to use. Just grab it and vacuum.

Robin233 · 21/05/2022 22:36

Miele again.
Cordless , 3 speeds , light
3 positions
I use it with box lower down handle which makes it lighter to handle but can also changed to hand hold for the stairs and the car.
Love it.

A shark..it's so fantastic, best thing we've bought in years.

There's a switch right in front of you - Off-Carpet-hard floors. I flip it between hard floors and carpet when I hoover over a rug for must effective cleaning. So easy.

I’m a cleaner and highly recommend a Sebo vacuum. Pick up is superb and easily to maintain yourself.

Ive had a Sebo for 15 years. It’s great.

knowinglesseveryday · 21/05/2022 23:10

Which sebo? Aren't they heavy?

RedSoloCup · 21/05/2022 23:31

Henry is the best non cordless ever. fact.

I run mine alongside a cordless dyson which is great for a daily hoover about but Henry once a week is essential!

Lavenderlast · 21/05/2022 23:37

I bought a new Henry but I found it very annoying. Gave it away and got a Miele instead. Love the Miele.

PickAChew · 21/05/2022 23:39

I have a miele c1, about 4 years old, and it cleans well. My only beef is the stiff hose. Ooherrr.

PickAChew · 21/05/2022 23:43

And yes, my old sebo x4 also cleans well but is very heavy and is underwhelming on hard floors. The felix line is supposed to be better on hard floors but is difficult to manoeuvre if you have mobility issues.

DramaAlpaca · 21/05/2022 23:47

Miele Cat and Dog C3, it's the best. It also has a long cord which is handy as I don't have to keep unplugging it every five minutes to move rooms.

yikesanotherbooboo · 21/05/2022 23:55

We have sebos and they are excellent. They are quite heavy but we have inherited 2 and our old one (15 years) is at DD's flat and still trouble free.Having said that we have a small second property where we have a Bosch cordless coming to the end of its life.It has been fantastic and I am very much in the market for another light cordless model so that nterested in these replies.

LilythePunk · 22/05/2022 05:35

Mine is the x4 but I must admit that I would like a lighter hoover now to do the stairs and hard floors. Not sure which one to get.
I also have an Eufy which is great for getting under things and the amount of dust and dirt it picks up is frightening. However it is taking hours to charge now after a short burst of cleaning and the brushes are bent. I haven’t had it that long either.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 22/05/2022 06:12

We have the shark cordless anti hair wrap and it's an absolute dream.

I'm a wheelchair user and just couldn't handle the old dyson at all, it was heavy and clunky.

Bought ourselves the shark and I can now whizz around and do all downstairs in 10 minutes, because it comes apart I can even manage the stairs!

Theoldwoman · 22/05/2022 06:48

Miele, cat and dog. Brilliant.

I have owned Dyson and Henry before and Miele is far superior.

KangarooKenny · 22/05/2022 06:50

I only use the cordless Dyson for hard floors, as I found it left a layer of hair on carpets. I bought a middle of the road upright for carpets and was shocked at what the Dyson had left behind.

floppybit · 22/05/2022 11:17

I bought a Shark and it was crap! Wouldn't pick up cat litter, when you stopped using it all the dirt would fall back down the tube onto the floor again. After a couple of uses it started cutting out so I took it back and bought a Hoover instead which is lightweight and brilliant- cordeless models by the way

RaleighDurham · 22/05/2022 11:34

Sebo upright.
Best hoover ever.

AtillatheHun · 22/05/2022 11:40

The cleaner loaned us her vax upright last week. It’s substantially better than the Henry or the Dyson stick that we have (& forget a stupid roomba, they’re useless)

Hocuspocus99 · 22/05/2022 21:52

Dyson waste of money , pick up questionable, Miele overall good , short flex , but a cylinder vacuum . Henry hurts your back , but hose great rest of it not so good on carpets ! Shark not as light as you think , as motor at the top , cleans ok and charge relatively good . Currently have an X7 Sebo , yes heavier but they actually clean, not the prettiest but I love it . So it depends on what you want from a vacuum and the amount of usage . If you want a quick clean get a rechargeable ! Hope that helps

MoonminMummy9 · 22/05/2022 21:57

Miele cat dog. 10 years and the suction power is as new.

I have a eufy, it's ok (not as powerful) but I can just set it off and put my feet up.

DysonFury1 · 22/05/2022 22:11

Thanks for all the insight, so many good models to choose from. Leaning towards the Shark based on these replies.

Shark lift away is brilliant but it cannot cope with long hair blocks blocks blocks. Has a great hepa filter- air feels cleaner. Also you have to push the whole thing as it’s default is an upright vacuum- every stroke you push the entire appliance so hard work. The on board attachments fall off a lot. The lift away function is great for the stairs but if you are prone to any pelvic or back issues, it could be your undoing- as the name suggests, you lift it with one hand and vacuum with the other so better have done a bit of Pilates . Great for pokey spaces. In the upright mode it won’t go under a lot of beds. It’s quite plasticky and mine now is consigned to being a car vacuum after less than a year as top and bottom parted company for no apparent reason. The Miele cat and dog has the same design problems as it’s ancestors in last millennium- if it gets rough handling you’ll spend decades having to duct tape it closed. It will never die. You will love it and hate it. It’s like a tank and comes out top or nearly in most reviews. The Henry is great if you have the space and don’t mind hoiking up the stairs- it’s what the professionals prefer

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 25/05/2022 13:36

Miele cat and dog to pick up my long hair, I don't have pets. Has the turbo head with the spinning brush. Had it years, fantastic on carpet. If I was being picky you can sometimes catch the button for the rewind cord whilst hoovering so it starts to reel itself in but that is a teeny issue and not one that happens every time. I also like that I can change the suction settings without bending down as you can use your foot. I do have to change the head for the hard floors but again, not enough of an issue to really complain about it.

I do have a Dyson cordless mainly for the kitchen but it definitely is a secondary vacuum cleaner for carpets, does well on hard floors though.

axolotlfloof · 25/05/2022 13:47

We have a 5 year old Miele c1. 2 kids, dog, cat and I have allergies so lots of hoovering.
I recommend it.

MovingatPace · 26/05/2022 10:45

I think I must be very sore on vacuums - been through so many in 20 years - two Dysons (one broke almost immediately, the other waited till the end of it's guarantee), one Miele, one Sebo and one Panasonic and a Shark. Miele has just packed up - hence joining this thread. Shark is still going but cordless needs emptying too frequently.
