Ants!

Keep getting ants in my lounge.

had a Google. Spent the evening hoovering and hand washing the floor with peppermint oil and water mix. Put undiluted peppermint oil around the skirting board where it meets the floor.

ants just merrily walked over said peppermint oil and wet peppermint floor. So, that’s bollocks.

i have a pet so can’t use anything toxic. Any ideas?

Ground cinnamon apparently works, and is safe.

Diatomaceous earth. Non toxic to pets and kids. We used with both and it works a treat. Cheap on amazon.

Icing sugar mixed with baking soda.

Put it in a shallow dish like a saucer or gravy granules lid. They are attracted to the sugar but the baking soda kills them. They bring it back to their nest so they all perish ...

The only thing I have found that has worked is an ant bait station. Picture attached.

Fairy and water

Ground cinnamon sprinkled. Works well

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 19/05/2022 09:59

Dethlac. You just need to keep pets away while it dries.

This worked brilliantly for us. Other methods didn't work

I really don’t want to kill the entire nest… I feel bad enough killing the ones that are in the house. However, if nothing else works I’ll have to.

We had the same. What kind of pets? We just put them
underneath low furniture out of reach from fat cat and toddlers and it’s been fine.

Came on here to recommend ant stop as well. It is only thing that works and is safe for humans/babies/pets as it’s based on a soil bacterium that is harmless to mammals.

Had these feckers last year and did not tackle them aggressively enough to begin with. Ant bait station...they were wise to that and just walked around it - we ended up using a nuclear option under the kickboards after leaving down syrup traps mixed with borax and other types of ant poison...I think they had built a nest inside the house because we couldn't find their entry point. So for the point of desperation - this worked when everything else failed!

I have rabbits, they’re free roam and their favourite place to sleek is behind the sofa which is where the ants are coming from.

We used to feed them, a little dish with some jam in it, keep it close to the nest and they won’t wander around anywhere else. You can train them to go where you want them to because they will just go to the saucer and back. Really works and it’s kind. We need ants !!!

Feeding ants in your house is an interesting solution. Can I ask why you use the past tense? Why did you stop feeding them?
