What spray do you use?

6 years ago I started using method and other less harsh chemicals for cleaning the kitchen and bathroom due to being pregnant.

However I have recently realised that my kitchen and bathroom never feel as clean as other people's. DH also goes on about how the house isn't clean enough whenever the children get a sickness bug or dodgy tummy. I do wonder if the lack of chemical smell makes it feel not as clean as others houses?

I don't want to use bleach as I know I would get it on me and ruin my already limited amount of clothes so what non bleach product do you use in your kitchen and bathroom to give that deep clean feel?

Flash are good

No children but several pets. Mainly washing up liquid and hot water! Bleach for the loo and a mould & mildew cleaner for the corner of the shower.

If I need to sanitise something then white vinegar & water. Smells strong when you're using it but dissipates quickly.

And open the windows a lot, especially summer.

If I had a DH who wasn't happy with my perfectly reasonable cleaning, I'd tell him to do it himself 😉

I’ve recently started using Cif in the bathroom and it feels much more effective than Method spray, everything looks more shiny and clean

NightmareSlashDelightful · 21/05/2022 10:05

I get on alright with Method tbh although I have some Spanish brands that I like for cleaning the floor and glass surfaces.

If your kids are getting bugs, they’re most likely picking them up from other kids, not your worktops.

I think your DH needs to do more of the cleaning himself if he thinks his own house is dirty. 🤷‍♀️

There's a hypothesis that the exponential rise in allergies is due to over exposure to anti bac products. Is your view that your house is not as clean as other people's based on it not smelling of the synthetic fragrance of cleaning products? I've cut this stuff out, I don't want to breathe in these molecules.

I used method in the kitchen on benches and table. Supermarket own brand kitchen cleaner with on the hob and supermarket own brand bathroom cleaner.

if DH has an issue with your cleaning he can always do it himself.

DH also goes on about how the house isn't clean enough whenever the children get a sickness bug or dodgy tummy.

Is he unable to find the cleaning aisle in the supermarket himself?

I mainly use soap and hot water, especially for the kitchen - a cloth with washing up liquid is generally fine for wiping down the surfaces, hob, microwave etc.

We just get whatever is on offer but generally something along the lines of flash, cillit bang or cif. Multi-purpose surface cleaner, glass cleaner (this works on everything), or anti-grease cleaner for the kitchen. Sometimes we get the anti-limescale one for the bathroom. I don't tend to buy antibacterial because it often contains bleach and we accidentally bleach ourselves but DH buys it sometimes.

IME it doesn't really matter what cleaning agent you use, hot water is the most important thing. Scrubbing away with a dry cloth and just the spray is no use at all. Agree that hot water and washing up liquid is fine too. We just rarely have WUL in the house.

Iwanttobeascoolasblueysdad · 21/05/2022 22:46

Kinn spray is lovely and smells like a spa. Otherwise though agree with washing up liquid and hot water. I can’t remember the number so this is a pretty pointless comment, but apparently hot water and detergent is almost as good as bleach at killing stuff on surfaces.

I use a lot of fabulosa for the smells and I straight up bleach my bathroom and use bleach-based mould spray.

Astonish are very good and I put pure tea tree in some sprays.

Welshrarebit75 · 11/06/2022 08:05

I’ve just started using Neat which are plant based and plastic free.

Bleach for the toilet. Pink paste for tough jobs.

I have tried various eco brands and have just recently switched to Spruce, which I'm very happy with.still use method for wooden floors because I love the smell!

Spruce
we don't use bleach ever because we have a septic tank. The best thing for a really clean feel is a steam cleaner. Gets in all the nooks and crannies. But very strongly agree with the PPs who said if your DH doesn't think the house is clean enough, tell him he can just crack on with cleaning it then?

Mirrorball2022 · 11/06/2022 08:18

Children get illness they are building an immune system it’s a normal part of childhood. If you are cleaning it’s more likely school germs. If your husband has an issue he may need to take over the cleaning if you do it!

We don’t have to anti bac and scent everything within in an inch of its life to be clean. Exposure to bacteria good and bad isn’t always a bad thing. Hot water and washing up liquid work too. It’s summer open windows for a fresh house. Many people have air fresheners, sprays, plug ins, candles, melts that create the smell not the actual cleaning

I use smol subscription cleaners. Happy with them.
