How to clean the washing machine - behind the soap drawer yuck

I've taken the soap drawer out as usual to give it a clean. I think this is the first time I've looked in though! How to clean this when I can't reach it? Would spraying with white vinegar solution and putting the machine on 90 help? Hate to know what the inside is like..

Spray and an old toothbrush or denture brush.

Danikm151 · 27/04/2022 15:24

Old tooth brush and some bleach

dementedpixie · 27/04/2022 15:25

Or even one of those dish brushes if its the back wall you want to reach. Try bleach spray

MayorDusty · 27/04/2022 15:26

Got a flexible spatula? One of those silicone ones that you can scrape the gunk with?

you might want to check the draw and see the build up there is. Water goes through the draw whether you use it or not.

Can't get to the back wall at all even with dish brush

Spray it with mould spray maybe. Is that detergent sitting inside the compartment?

JofraArchersFastestBall · 28/04/2022 21:15

Put the drawer back in and never look in there again. Sorted.

I just use a sponge and teat brush to do the back. I love cleaning out all the wee water holes with an interdental brush. One of my favourite cleaning jobs.

You need to use less detergent.

@TheCanyon I can't physically get to it!

Loocheeyar · 28/04/2022 22:31

I pita kettle of hot water down it and a toothbrush

AllLopsided · 28/04/2022 22:32

Do you have a bottle brush? Mine has a bendy stem - might be possible to attach it to something to make it longer?

Mumdiva99 · 28/04/2022 22:33

I use a bottle brush....it's about 30 cm long. I get right in the cracks and edges.

But at the end of the day.....it's the inside of the machine.....it really doesn't matter all that much.

(Now the seal on the door.....pull that back and look at the gunk in there.....that is yucky and worth cleaning.)

Can you explain how you can't get to it so we can help? A standard dish brush/bottle brush would reach in a standard machine

It's quite far back and I can't reach it using a dish / bottle brush. Can't get my arm in further either

Spray flash. You need a brush with spikes facing up like what you use for dishes or baby bottles.

Davros · 02/05/2022 23:36

I've used DD's paintbrushes in the past. They can be quite long

greyshadows · 03/05/2022 16:36

OP here

It's too far back , can't find anything with a long enough handle

ginghamstarfish · 07/05/2022 16:58

There are many many poorly designed things that we use every day, but washing machine drawers are one of the worst. It's as if the person who designs them has never used or had to clean one. You can get the drawer out, but then there's all the nooks and crannies in the place where it comes out of, and the holes leading off from it .... what a crappy design, why not make the whole unit come out?
