Velvet sofa

We’ve bought a beautiful velvet sofa (almost like a suede material the fibres are so short), NOT crushed velvet!

However, I’m not sure how to clean it! Read online no water (!), it’s already getting dusty after a week. Can I Hoover it using the little brush attachment on the Hoover hose that I’ve never used before but maybe this is what it’s for?

my gut instinct is to wring out a damp j-cloth till almost dry then wipe the dust and get into all the nooks and crannies (it’s a chesterfield too, so got all those little indents and buttons), but would this really wreck the sofa?

What kind of velvet is it? Cotton?

We hoover ours frequently, also use a clothes brush on it. This picks up cat hair and dust. You could try a lint roller which is gentle? But the hoover has done no harm to ours, 2 1/2 years now.

Damp cloth is fine on ours. It must be fine or it isn’t fit for purpose.

Errrrr…..! Now you’re asking questions I have no answer to 😂

the website just says “velvet”, I’ve just checked the listing again and no mentions of what kind of velvet it is.

thanks @ChocolateChocolateEverywhere Feel better now I know I can safely Hoover - good tip about the lint roller too!

I've put my velvet covers in the washing machine with no ill effect! Mine is a Parker Knoll so not cheap 🤷🏻‍♀️ Had no idea it shouldn't get wet.
