I have countless cleaning products but ideally I want to whittle it down to just a few.

Can you tell me what your essentials are and what you use them for please?

I use very few products:

Harpic toilet bleach weekly to scrub the loo bowl with a toilet brush.

Antibacterial disposable wipes to wipe the toilet cistern/handle/seat/rim as needed

Soft broom, dustpan and brush, for sweeping floors before mopping and brushing the dirt off the front door mat. This is weekly too.

Flash (or similar, it was Stardrops I had before, equally as good) for floors, cleaning bath and sink, diluted into a spray bottle for wiping down surfaces/door handles/stair rails etc. and also for cleaning windows. All part of my weekly cleaning.

Mop and bucket for the floors, re-useable cloths for wiping things down.

Fairy liquid or equivalent with a sponge with added Brillo pad side, for washing up dishes. I do my dishes daily.

I occasionally use drain unblocker down the plug holes if they start to smell.

Clothes washed in Persil powder. Usually a load of washing per day.

I like this- minimal!

I have lots of things to use up but the only ones I use regularly and will replace are
washing up liquid
dishwasher tablets
washing powder (one for colours one for whites)
antibac spray (I buy the ones you add to water and make up yourself)
all purpose cleaner (capsule I add to water again)
Viakal or Aldi bathroom cleaner
bleach
cream/ paste cleaner for really dirty things (bar keepers friend is my favourite)

About once a year I oven pride the oven but keep on top of it with washing up liquid in between

Still a long list compared to many!

Not saying at all that anyone is wrong.
But do not some of the products rely on how old your furniture/work surface/shower/supboards are, for example?

Plus what type of water?
We have spring water, and I find that things I try out, much of it does not work the same for me, as for others.

I rent so have lived all over the place. I keep the same system regardless of where I live, what the water is like or what things are made of.

Obviously I hoover carpet instead of sweeping and mopping, but that's the only change

If you're getting residue try using less product. I never use manufacturers proportion anyway, even in hard water areas, it's unnecessary to use that much if you clean regularly. My house never reaches a point of looking visibly dirty. The odd mark on the wall or fingerprints on the doors perhaps, but that's sprayed with the solution and wiped same as everything else.

Good cloths make all the difference. Mine look almost like a face flannel. They're coloured but come up grey with dirt which wasn't visible every time I clean. I could wipe with lesser cloths and their colour wouldn't change because they're not absorbent enough and have just smeared the dirt/cleaning solution around. Anything is better than nothing though!

Washing up liquid, water, refillable spray bottle, cloth, scrubber.
I have in the past used Ecover all purpose cleaner which smelled nice and did a good job.
Bicarbonate of soda.
White vinegar.
Small amounts of bleach as last resort.

Evozone tablets for the DW/WM to do the monthly clean
Exozone descaler liquid for the kettle and shower head
Dr Bronner liquid soap for worktops and kitchen floor ( and I've just bought one of those mops with the twisty bucket Grin )
WUL on the windows with squeegee (OXO Goodgrips )
