Any recommendations for a mini oven please?

Well it’s finally happened, DS is off to Uni in a few months time so I’m going to be cooking for one the majority of time after that. It seems a huge waste to use my main oven in those circumstances so I was contemplating a mini oven. Does anyone have one to recommend please?

It depends on what you're planning to cook (obvs) I've got a Remouska from Lakeland. It's like a deepish pan with a lid and an element inside. I can do a roast chicken(portions) with roasties, parsnips, carrots, swede in it in the time it takes my oven to heat up. Obviously there is some prep first - but seriously 30minutes job done. It will also crisp up jacket potatoes, pasties and so on as well as casseroles, quiches, cakes, sponge puddings. I love mine to bits and it saves so much energy. It plugs into a regular socket and can be put in a cupboard.

Everhot has a mini stove which will heat a room and you can use as an oven. Initial outlay is expensive but people that have purchased them think they are worth it. You can even cook a small roast.

Thanks both. In terms of what I plan to cook it’ll probably be jacket potatoes, the odd roast, fish fingers (sorry), casseroles and chilli etc. I’ll have a look at these. It only occurred to me last night when I put my oven on for a couple of slices of garlic bread that it was a huge waste of energy and money!

I would get a ninja . You can’t beat them .

AdaColeman · 14/04/2022 09:09

Have a look at Air Fryers, contrary to their name, that are actually small ovens.

OldSpeclkledHen · 14/04/2022 13:56

Ninja foodi
Mine does 9 things I think? Only use 3-4 of them though - but it's brilliant- I live alone and use mine most days (as the Rayburn is knackered!)

Can you use the ninja like a microwave ie can I use it to reheat a meal or a heat up can of beans?
Iheartmysmart · 14/04/2022 14:24

Ooh I’m liking the Ninja so thank you for that recommendation. I wish I’d bought a double oven when I replaced the absolutely filthy one that was in my flat when I moved in but finances didn’t permit at the time. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

What about a combi microwave/oven

Roselilly36 · 14/04/2022 14:29

Air fryers are great, I purchased one, used it everyday since.

For assorted reasons we are contemplating this: www.sageappliances.com/uk/en/products/ovens/bov860.html - seems to get good reviews and versatile. Available more cheaply if you shop around.

I have a Panasonic combination microwave, which I can use to cook pretty much anything in less time using the various combos of convection oven, grill and microwave, it's a bit cheaper than a Ninja

seekingasimplelife · 19/04/2022 09:05

I have a Remoska.

As you've mentioned energy saving...

UK standard electric oven - 2200 watts (62p per hour)

Ninja foodi mini oven - 2400 watts (67p per hour) !!
Ninja foodi 7-in-1 multicooker - 1460 watts (41p per hour)

Panasonic combi microwave -1000 watts (28p per hour, or 37p grill).
The Smart Oven Air Fryer - 2400 watts (67p per hour) !!

Remoska, standard size - 400 watts (11p per hour)
Remoska Grand (large size) 580 watts (16p per hour)

Calculations are based on April 2022 Energy Price Cap.

Thanks for that Seeking. Vindication at last. I knew that it was saving me money - I just didn't know how much. I guess that's the power of advertising for you. Ninjas are all over the place, when did you see a Remoska. As it says in the catalogue - it's a 'best kept' secret. On sale at Lakeland!
loopylindi · 19/04/2022 10:07

Sorry, posted too soon. Our dinner last night was potato wedges, mixed veg and a (pre cooked) chicken portion. The wedges were started in a frying pan to accelerate the browning, then the whole thing took less than half an hour - that's less than 5p!

seekingasimplelife · 19/04/2022 14:10

@loopilindi, Glad you’re enjoying using your Remoska! I can’t understand why they are not more popular. So easy to use (and take with you if caravanning or camping). As you say, the power of advertising…
Mine is over 15 years old now. An old style model with the little window. It’s still going strong and I use it most days. I baked a ring of scones in it this morning which always turn out well.

sorry misspelling your username! That should be @loopylindi Blush

I've also had mine a long time, but with regard to popularity, (apart from me banging on about it any time there's a thread about saving money/fuel) they're not advertised, so unless one is a customer of Lakeland they're not to be found anywhere else so you wouldn't know. If you Google it, Lakeland is all that comes up. Shall we start a campaign? Anyone know an influencer? Post a blog? I know - invent a 'life hack' and get yourself on the One Show! That'll do it
