Oven cleaning

Onedayatatime22 · 13/04/2022 18:03

I've just taken back possession of a property and the oven is just horrific. Can anyone recommend an easy way to clean an oven that honestly looks like it hasn't been cleaned for a decade? It's my worst housekeeping job ever and there has to be an easy way to do it!
Thanks

Pay someone to do it!

I used to think that paying for someone to clean an oven was so profligate, but I've just had mine done and it looks brand new.

It cost £65. Worth every penny.

I'm watching this as especially want advice on glass doors.

I'd pay someone to do it. We let ours slip a bit, so we paid £80 and someone gave it a good deep clean and we now keep on top of it with a quick weekly wipe over

Well worth the money!

We paid someone about £65 to do ours and it was like new, I’d don’t think I’d ever be able to get it looking that good using oven cleaner from the supermarket.

Definitely get an oven cleaning company in! Here’s a link to a company in my area, just to show you their before and after gallery. As PP posters have said, your oven really will look like new!

I’m a cleaner, and pretty much the only thing I don’t do anymore is get involved in heavy duty oven cleaning - there’s no point, as you’ll NEVER get it to the standard a dedicated company will.

Do a search for ‘oven cleaning (your area)’ - some will also replace worn seals and blown bulbs, so that’s worth asking about too. Don’t forget the extractor hood/hob.

Either pay a company or if you want to save money, buy Lakeland oven cleaning gel, leave it on over night and reapply if necessary, awesome stuff, just wipe out the oven with kitchen paper, no smell, would recommend.

Hugasauras · 13/04/2022 19:45

Yep! Pay £50 or whatever and get someone in with all the proper gear. It'll be done far better and quicker than you'll manage and without those horrible Oven Pride chemicals. We use Ovenu and our guy has always been great.

And then get oven liners in it, makes keeping it clean so much easier.

Yep, agree with this.

Once your oven is clean, keep an eye on it for grease and burnt bits starting to build up - the easiest and quickest way to stay on top of things is to put the racks and side supports through the dishwasher (hottest possible setting, lay them at the bottom with other stuff on the top rack). Whilst the dishwashers running, spray the inside of the oven and glass with kitchen degreaser and leave it to work. Wipe the bulk of degreaser/gunk off with newspaper, final wipe clean with microfibre cloth(s). You should only need to give the racks etc. a quick wipe once they’ve finished in the dishwasher to remove any last bits.

This is what I do for my clients to maintain their oven once it’s been properly cleaned by a pro.

Thanks all - will hunt for a local company.

I agree with @Roselilly36, the lakeland stuff is fantastic. Get the one for the shelves too and bung the rings , shelves in the same bag ( supplied in the kit )

It's also great on Pyrex / glass , glazed earthen ware, and enamel roasting trays . .
Don't use it on your pans though Sad . And I have no idea what it's like on nonstick .

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 13/04/2022 21:32

The pink stuff works on glass doors

VerveClique · 13/04/2022 21:35

If you’re going to do it yourself, work out how to completely dismantle and then remove the door first. Gamechanger.

CrotchetyQuaver · 13/04/2022 21:41

Absolutely worth every penny, get a pro in to do it. I had no idea they were so good myself, until like you I was confronted with a disgusting oven left behind in a rental.

My worry about doing this is that the door won't go back on again!
