I'm sure this holiday is the worst too.

I understand why I need to hoover a lot more (everybody is in all day, every day, making a mess and shedding skin etc). Also all activities are ceased, not just after school but weekend stuff too so we are slumped in front of the TV or playing in rooms rather than doing craft at the local museum etc.

I understand the need for clothes to be washed more (it's cold so we wear more and when we do tear ourselves off the sofa we get wet and muddy).

But why the divil do I find I need to wash the towels more often? The heating is on and thy are getting dry, but they are manky after oly 4-5 days. And why is the cooker so mucky? And why is there so much recycling to sort? It's thrown my cleaning routine into chaos, I tell you.

Anyone else finding this?

LOK at shedding skin. I agree with all extra housework. We've been hanging around the house alot, eating at home more which creates alot more mess and clearing up. I haven't really got a cleaning routine, but would like one as it sounds good.

MorocconOil · 06/01/2008 21:07

Sorry,LOL not LOK.

sandyballs · 06/01/2008 21:08

I think the xmas hols are probably the worse for this kind of feeling. I'm certainly getting cabin fever and have told DH we HAVE TO MOVE. He calmly explained that once I am back at work and the girls at back at school our house will feel huge again, he's probably right . But I agree with the washing and the crap to clean up.

Iota · 06/01/2008 21:09

I do less cleaning when the kids are on holiday - vacuuming seems so pointless

( I am having a big clean up tomorrow)

Clary · 06/01/2008 21:16

Iota really?

My schedule has me hoovering upstairs twice a week but this hol I have been doing it at least 4x. That's when the Playmobil game will let me in DD and DS2's bedroom

Yes I suppose we are cooking here every meal each day, hence the cooker top crapola. I mean I have loved these hols (tho I;ve been working a bit) but still...

mimizan cleaning routine is wonderful, esp if you work, then you know you changed the bedlinen on Friday (or whatever) so no need to worry.

I agree with a cleaning routine. Little and often is the key to my sanity. Trying to do it all in one "sitting" is a recipe for disaster.

mairseydotes · 06/01/2008 21:19

ok clary I am seriously impressed...do you think you could find the time to post your cleaning routine on here? I would LOVE to get organised this year...

handlemecarefully · 06/01/2008 21:20

I don't find that the housework triples as such, it's more a case of having no time to do it in peace without being bothered by an irritating small person(s)

School and Pre-School starts tomorrow - yay!

MorocconOil · 06/01/2008 21:25

I would also like any tips on cleaning routines.

Clary · 06/01/2008 21:27

Oh Mairseydotes you shouldn't have asked!

Daily: hoover downstairs, tidy up, wash up (DH does that), laundry and iron as needed. (like now

Mon: wash towels, clean bathroom.
Tues: Dust and hoover d/stairs inc picture rails, move sofa etc. Hoover stairs.
Weds: our bedlinen, hoover upstairs.
Thurs: bread bin, clean woodwork or any carpet needing it! thorough clean sink and drainer.
Fri: Kids' bedlinen, clean bathroom.
Sat: Clean fridge, clean kitchen bin, clean kitchen cupboards and windowsills.
Sun: Thorough hoover upstairs, hoover stairs, clean TV and mirrors.

Note I only have one bathroom, this would not do for four-loo houses many people live in!

right now must go and do ironing....

I have a very very unhealthy cleaning obsession so probably not the best person to be on this thread.

However i do hoover every day at least once mostly twice sometimes upto 3 times

I change all beds once a week on a sunday, dd's cot gets changed mid week too.

I wash up as we go never leave things from cooking big meal, will leave few plates in water but always soaked in water/fairy liquid then wash up a bit later.

polish when it needs to be done probably once or twice a week.

Empty bins every day.

I get up 1st thing i do is open curtains/windows & make beds in all rooms.

ermm, clean bathroom twice a week.

mop floors every night, sometimes miss the odd night.

Do 1-2 wash loads a day, usually put washing/drying on in evening when kids in bed.

Do ironing usually when the basket is near top so once a week.

always de-clutter my house once every 2 months.

Thats about it, probably missed soemthing ....

handlemecarefully · 06/01/2008 21:34

Clary - where does disinfecting your bathroom floors feature? ( a personal bugbear - we get pee on the floor due to 3 yr old ds, plus I find ....ewwwww...tiny fragments of poo stained toilet roll on the floor sometimes which have fallen off someone's exterior)

..and what about mopping kitchen floor?

handlemecarefully · 06/01/2008 21:35

Ah have re-read. Probably included in 'clean bathroom' and 'clean kitchen'?

LoveMyGirls · 06/01/2008 21:38

I've been doing less house work, just doing some as and when its needed really rther than doing that and having a big clean once a week, but today we've all helped and the house now completely tidy and clean we've taken the decs down sorted toys etc now just the masses of paperwork to get through but that will have to wait!

mairseydotes · 06/01/2008 21:39

oh god
hoover EVERY DAY

do you work outside the home?
I work in an office full time and have a two hour commute

MorocconOil · 06/01/2008 21:43

I must be a right slattern. I hardly ever polish or dust. I only hoover once a week downstairs, and every couple of weeks upstairs. I usually clean the bathroom once a week.

I really must spend less time on MN in 2008.

Thanks for the routine Clary and Scooby.

Mercy · 06/01/2008 21:44

Blimey, I don't do half of this - adn I don't think it's necessary tbh (with apologies to Scoobydoo).

I avoid doing any cleaning at the weekend (except clothes washing and ironing). It's not worth it imo.

handlemecarefully · 06/01/2008 21:51

Mercy,

I clean the kitchen floor daily. You probably wouldn't think it is necessary. However the water in my bucket post washing is invariably black or slate grey.

I have two dogs - one is a big hairy fecker who sheds hairs and particles of soil that have dried on her coat.

The amount of cleaning that is necessary depends upon the amount and nature of the 'traffic' in the household...

in a previous life as a single woman with my own home - cleaning was negligible (oh those days!)

blossomsmine · 06/01/2008 23:21

I hoover every day and clean bathroom and kitchen every day. I also flick a duster through whole house every day....but thats where i go wrong i think. Cos i do this everyday i don't have time to do other stuff like decluttering and generally sorting out cupboards and wardrobes etc., so never seem to get on top of things. But i get the 'jitters' if i haven't done the hoovering, think i have a problem

Clary · 07/01/2008 09:36

HMC I have carpet in both rooms (urrgh! I know - don't start me on it, the plan is replacement, but, as with much in the Clary house, it's a long-term plan! do not imagine from my schedule that my house is tidy or in any way smart!) so no mopping. Hoover kitchen daily. Bathroom floor as needed included in clean bathroom. Wee round loo seat not a major problem tho. (was LOL-ing at Cod's thread last night)

Marseydotes, yes work 4 days/week but my commute is about 20 mins thank goodness. 2hrs would just about kill me and if you work 5 days/week that's a lot too. I reckon you deserve a cleaner. Hoover every day takes about 10 mins tho, honestly.
