New cleaner arriving today and I want to put together a bag with all the best cleaning essentials. What would you all include in terms of brands? Eg CIF for bathrooms? Also - which are the best sponges for cleaning? Microfibre?

You'd think I would Know all this by now at the tender age of 48 but know MN will have some gems I haven't thought of! Thx x

This is really thoughtful! I would say the basics are - glass cleaner, spray cleaner, toilet cleaner, furniture polish and floor cleaner if mopping is involved. I don't think brands are too important- get the fragrances you can live with.
Get plenty of microfibres cloths in different colours so that these can be used for different areas of the home and a couple of good thick yellow dusters.
Give your vacuum filter a wash if you haven't for a while so it picks up nicely.

Actually if the cleaner is coming today forget the filter they need 24 hours to dry.

Morning. I’ve been a cleaner for a number of years. It’s only through trial and error that I’ve found what works best in the majority of houses. A spray furniture polish is good, unless you have antique furniture when a more specialised product should be used. I wouldn’t bother with glass cleaner, I haven’t found one yet that doesn’t streak. Instead I’d just supply washing up liquid (can be used for so many things), a dot of this on a wet cloth works wonders. A little bit of white vinegar in addition can be used. Bathroom cleaner next, they’re all much of a muchness. Bleach for the toilets, and any black mould. Limescale remover for taps. E cloths are great, the glass one is invaluable. I would say avoid yellow dusters (too much lint), and get white ‘dusters’. A decent hoover is also invaluable, I love my Shark, but different people/different preferences.

In my experience a cleaner will have their own preferences, so I would ask them when they arrive if there are any particular products or brands they prefer to work with.

May be too late now but I always ask the cleaner what products they rate and use - after all they are the experts and have to use them!
