The best storage solutions for small items??

I need a specific piece of storage but I have no idea what to google. We like to buy things in bulk online like toothpaste, soap, washing up liquid etc as it works out cheaper and it's so much more convenient to just have this stuff in the cupboard when we need it.

But I can't find the best way to store it. We have a small cupboard in the hall where everything is in its boxes and it's clunky to look through. What I need is either drawers - quite a few that are short so maybe 10 drawers about 10cm tall each? Or open shelving that's again short but a lot of it.

What's the best way I can store these small items efficiently so they're easy to access? Googling isn't helping as I don't want a full normal chest of drawers - the drawers are too deep!

Filing cabinets. Awesome.

Can you put plastic crates in your cupboard to sort through the items? I like the clear ones from ikea (or shoe boxes etc for a more eco solution). This would make your existing cupboard more functional & avoid the expense of new furniture

Or something like bathroom organiser drawers/trays - again to fit inside the cupboard

What about this Alex unit from IKEA?

It also comes in a 9 drawer version.

If you use open shelves in a cupboard these fridge type pull out clear organiser boxes are so handy:

iDesign Stackable Box with Handles, Large and Deep Plastic Refrigerator Box for Food and Kitchen Accessories, Kitchen Organiser for Refrigerator , Freezer or Pantry, Clear smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00C3AUWEO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_i_NY6PWBR79JV4KVYKMG8P?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I use them in my kitchen but they would work well for toothpaste etc on shelving.

Was about to say stackable boxes or crates.

Thank you so many good ideas! I'm not keen on just plastic storage tubs as they'll just sit on top of each other so I'd need to take top boxes out in order to open the boxes underneath. Found some drawers here that look great, thanks all

If the ones you found don't work out we have Really Useful tower though it's rainbow coloured!

Could I ask where you buy your bulk online shopping and how much of a saving you make? Thanks.

Polyanthus2 · 13/03/2022 06:38

Could you just store it aphabetically from the top down - so toothpaste on bottom shelf. I presume it arrives boxed.

Small built in unit
I have this in my utility cupboard and maximises every square inch of space

I’ve read on MN that people buy loo roll in bulk from Amazon because it’s cheaper and delivered.

Take a look at diy/hardware storage. You can get stackable boxes that are cutaway at the front so you can see/reach inside without playing cupboard jenga.

Cynderella · 13/03/2022 17:42

We use a Kallax unit with some boxes, but you could use drawers. We also have a cupboard in the bathroom, but that was built in a long time ago.

To the person who asked about sources, I have always stocked up when something has been BOGOF or half price. Some things like 5l of washing up liquid can be obtained from Amazon - I fill old bottles for kitchen use - but often same price or more expensive than supermarket bottles.

For things like flour, cereals, toiletries and cleaning products, I like to have a store so that I don't have to go to supermarkets so often.

Sunnysidegold · 17/03/2022 09:38

I think stackable crate will work well, but you need ones with access from the front so you can get to stuff easily. Not sure of the pricing of these. You can also get those open fronted crates like you would see in a warehouse

Filing cabinets. Awesome.
Perfect suggestion for me. Thanks so very much, I can't believe I hadn't even considered it. Now clearing a drawer in it is going to be fun - not
