Washer Dryer recommendations

I need a new washer dryer, and looking for recommendations, and also what to avoid.

I don't have space for a separate washing machine and dryer, and would prefer a larger drum.

Would be interested to hear what others have and whether good or not.

Thank you in advance ☺

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for washer dryer recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best washer dryer page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful.

I asked about them a while ago, on another thread, and was basically talked out of getting one! I am glad I didn’t get one as they use a lot of electricity. So no advice except that if you really do want one, get the best you can afford.

They take forever to dry a load. Plus they are expensive to buy. If the washer breaks down you can't use the tumbler and vice versa. I have my tumbler in the garage but you could equally put one in a bedroom or bathroom or downstairs loo/extension.

I had one years ago and would not have another one given.

Got a new LG washer dryer a few years ago. I was happy with it. Lots of functionality to the washer and a decent dryer, all digital and singing. I dried all my towels and sheets in it but mostly used it for odd bits rather than drying full loads. Its in a rental now and tenants happy with it.

Have a 15 year old zanussi washer/ dryer that's amazing. Very simple, very hard working. Passed through 3 family members and now with tenants.

When mum moved to a flat (sadly she is no longer with us). There was only room for a washer/dryer which was needed because she was bed bound and used a catheter. I got her a Bosch one from John Lewis. Was very happy with that.

I have hotpoint Aquarius wdpg8640 - it's probably discontinued but there will be a newer model. It's perfectly good at both washing and drying. An eco wash is 1hr 30, regular cotton 40 degrees is 3hrs. Drying does take hours but it's not as if you have to sit and watch it.

I’ve got a John Lewis one, it’s been going strong for a few years.
My biggest complaint is that the drain (that occasionally needs to be used) is so low down it’s impossible not to get water on the floor. I think most are flawed like this.
