Have found a bit of moth damage and lots of those white 'cases' in a rolled up wool rug that was being stores. It was very expensive (for us) and I would like to protect it from further damage. I have hoovered it but feel this is not enough...can I treat it with anything please?

TIA!

I heard moths don't like the smell of cedar, so you could maybe put cedar balls in the rolled up rug? Or I think you can get anti-moth sprays (google?)

Moths are attracted to 'stale human' smells eg sweat. So if you have everything cleaned you shouldn't have a problem.

Thankyou! Yes I was thinking of a spray type thing - I have been using mothballs with some antique stuff I've got in suitcases, but they are vile aren't they? Everything stinks of them.
We have had moths devouring the downstairs carpet for a while, it was under the bookcase so we didn't realise...after we removed the bookcase they seemed to stop nesting there though. But I have nowhere to use the rug atm or I would.

Thanks Fortyplus!!! I can't think why our rug would have stale human sweat on it

It doesn't have to be sweat! Don't suppose you've been rubbing whiffy armpits on the rug, have you? Any 'human' (or animal for that matter) smell will attract them. So sprays, cedarwood etc will help a bit, but not eliminate the problem. Old fashioned mothballs work, but they stink so I definitely wouldn't recommend those. I've heard people say that some of the substances used in them (camphor, etc) are harmful to humans, too.

Rentokil moth spray does the trick. I found it in a local hardware store.
