Getting rid of perfume smell from clothes

I bought a top online and when it arrived it smelled very strongly of perfume, as in it REEKS. It's a nice top and I'd like to wear it but the smell is awful. I put it on a regular wash with non-bio and it came out smelling okay when damp, but when dry the perfume was still there. Washed again with non-bio and half a cup of bicarb. Still smelly. I've looked up how to get rid of the smell and various methods are suggested - soak in bicarb overnight; wash in vinegar; hang it outside for a couple of days.

Anyone got a tried and tested method, please?

No, but I'm about to donate some clothes that were passed to me by my neighbour and after 4 or 5 washes, I can't rid them of neighbour smell/perfume, so I'm keen to hear of any answers.

I sometimes buy secondhand clothes that have parfum in them. Usually washing them twice, regular wash, which is 40 degrees, cycle 1,5hrs and hanging them out outside for a few days sorts things out.

I shall try a third wash today using bio powder and see what happens. I only use this powder in emergencies because that smells too, so it'll have to be washed yet again afterwards in something non-perfumed.

If that doesn't work, the next method will be vinegar. I'd hang it outside today but it would probably blow away.

Update. I soaked the offending item for 24hrs in bio detergent, then washed on 40C. I don't like the smell of that either, so washed it again with non-bio and then gave it a quick tumble. There is still a faint whiff of perfume but the smell is very much reduced. Result.

Once the wind has dropped, I'll hang it for a couple of days and see how it smells by then.

Honestly, the perils of being post-menopausal. I never expected a revulsion to perfumes to develop Confused
