Well I reckon I could stick the plastic housing back together but DH won't let me (some nonsense about "It's electical and liquid might drip through the gap" )

So RIP food processor. I had had it since at least birth of DS1 anyway (he's 8.5 now). Anyway, the qu is, do I need a new one?

DH did quick google and said it would be £200. I cannot see why a £249 magimix is any better than a £149 one from John Lewis site for example. Or what about a Kenwood one I found for £50 on Amazon?

What do I need and will it be too much ££££? At the moment I would say I use it not that much. I use a wand blender for soups, a hand-held mixer (fab!) for most cakes. Use magimix for making breadcrumbs and occasionally for cakes (but surely not essential? A lot easier tho after following Nigella recipes). Also made pastry in it for Christmas mince pies but again, I can do that with my fingers, tho it does take longer....

What do people think?

I got a liquidiser which has a grinder sort of attachment and I use it to make breadcrumbs (1 slice of bread at a time )/ground nuts etc, cost me £15. You could get one of those instead.

Clary · 02/01/2008 14:04

yes I was thinking the breadcrumbs were the main thing. I had never even used the grater thing for carrots etc (too much of a paid to clean etc).

what is this of which you speak spike? Link pls.

Have you got accidental damage cover on your insurance?

MacavitysCat · 02/01/2008 15:34

I have a braun handheld thingummy. It's great. I made mushroom pate with it this morning. I haven't used my magimix for years and I cook all the time.

Clary · 02/01/2008 16:03

ah good thought daisy

wonder if we have? And what excess would be

I think the excess is usually £50-75 but you should get a brand spanking-new replacement! OTOH I can recommend the really old Kenwood Chefs - I have my Grandma's and I think it's about 40 years old but still works fantastically well. I would be totally lost without it.
