Antibac wipes on baby toys

I have a very sicky 7 month old and feel like I'm fighting a losing battle trying to keep up with cleaning his toys from sick. I've been buying the milton wipes and using those for plastic but non dishwasherable things. When having a conversation about needing to buy more milton wipes my husband's view was that we don't need them and he's just been using dettol or equivalent antibac wipes which are cheaper and one wipe goes further. Is he right that we can use these? He has been using a wipe, waiting 5 minutes and giving the toy back to DS... is that right or does the toy then need wiping before giving back? I don't think I would be doing so much cleaning of his toys if he wasn't so sick, and I do try to buy dishwasherable stuff but we've been given lots as gifts from people who regularly visit- otherwise I'd be tempted to put the non-dishwasherable away until he is being less sick! Any advice?

At 7 months I’d be rinsing in hot water with a tiny amount of fairy.

Use reusable cloths dips into hot water with a little washing up liquid and a little thin bleach (cheap own brand is fine) throw the cloth in with normal washing

I think you need to check if the detol or equivalent wipes state they are ‘food safe’. If they aren’t it could well be contributing to him being sick.

Milton afaia are food safe.

You can buy milton anti bac spray which should go abit further than the wipes!

Why would you need to antibac it? Just clean the sick off with a cloth and hot water. If it's sick caused by a tummy bug, then yes, you want to eliminate the bug, but otherwise I don't see the need?

I used to rinse toys in Diluted Milton tabs much cheaper and I like the smell

hippohippohippo · 17/02/2022 17:29

Thanks all - I am using the wipes as I don't find a cloth and hot water gets rid of the smell?! I don't use them unless he's sick or drops the toys somewhere visibly grubby. We don't always have washing up liquid in the house as we don't own much that's not dishwasher safe so maybe I need to change that and try again!

Even toys with holes in? I think that's the thing, I don't want to submerge as I'm a bit paranoid they'll get moldy so a wipe seems a great solution.

I bought this when DS was first born but it's not "no-rinse" like the wipes!

I didn’t submerge them if they had holes in I just used a cloth soaked in the Milton - I used the tabs for bottles so made up solution in sterilising tub then put in basin to clean things.
