Buy a new washing machine or repair?

Would really appreciate some advice. I've had my Samsung eco bubble 8KG washing machine for roughly 6-7 years and it's now buggered. It has a 10 year motor warranty but not sure what the problem is. The drum will spin but not fast. If it is the motor I would still have to pay for labour. Is it worth it or should I just buy a new one? Thanks in advance Confused

I'd say if it's been heavily used and is showing its age in other ways, then replace (that's where I'm getting to with my machine). If it's not been doing 2 loads a day for those 7 years and is generally well behaved, then it might be worth repairing. I'd probably look for someone independent to do the repair, though.

I'm assuming it's a brushless motor. If it's not (unlikely for a newer machine) it's sometimes a case of just replacing the brushes.

No other signs of wear at all. I feel like I just bought it the other day and tbh I had no idea how much these things cost to fix or how short the life span is on washing machines. My last one lasted 10+ years but wasn't as "smart" as thisI'll have to find someone local and see how that goes. It feels so wasteful to just get rid of it. Thanks for your replyDaffodil

I've had many over the years (I'm really too old to be on mumsnet but as my offspring not given me grandchildren yet being all male I reserve the right to still be mum😉) , none seem to last more than 7 years so eventually I decided to just buy cheapest (with decent spin of course) and then replace. 👍

It is a waste of a good machine to discard it for a replaceable component (if that’s the issue)

‘Normal’ household use is 270 loads per year, but the majority of households aren’t full families, and a typical family is a higher than average use

If you have an idea of what the labour could be, plus any level of confidence in the problem you have being fixed under the motor warranty then that will give an idea on the balance between repair and replace

With new you know that you get a fresh start with something that you can expect to last years - and potentially a more efficient new model compared to an old model
