Cleaning oven door

Ended up with really short completion on new house and I need to clean my old one in very little time. I only vaguely know what I'm doing at the best of time and usually have a cleaner, always had one growing up and never been taught best ways of doing things.

I bought one of those oven pride kits for the main oven which was...ok? Definitely cleaner, still got a few orange grease marks on the side but decided I'm happy enough with it to mot be embarrassed. My issue is the glass door, which has cleaned up relatively well but still is a bit cloudy with some flecks of hard grease I cant get rid of.

I dont have either vinegar or baking soda (just baking powder) and no time to get any. Tried scrubbing with bot soapy water but dont seem to be getting anywhere. Any tips or am I best to just give up and expect them to get an oven cleaner in if it bothers them?

I had an oven cleaner recently and he used
Pink paste (the tub one)
Method cleaner
White vinegar spray

So if you have any of those it's worth a go

You need a glass scraper. That should get the remaining bits off. If there's still some residue then wet a dishwasher tablet and rub it over the glass door.

I wet a dishwasher tablet and rub it on the glass door - it cleans all the grease off. Wipe off the residue with a damp cloth, then dry.
Incidentally, if you get gunk on your iron, iron a dishwasher tablet to clean that too.

Second the scraper, I couldn't believe how well it worked + hob cleaner

Wish I'd seen the glass scrapers before, they look great!

Might prime one and pray it gets here in time.

Brillo pads

Can I just clarify about glass scrapers please? Are they the ones you get from Halfords to get ice off the windscreen or something else? Thanks!

Cynderella · 06/02/2022 22:59

The glass scrapers are the ones that can be used on ceramic hobs and on windows after painting frames. They're a plastic handle that into which you slot a razor blade.

But ... after using them for years on different ovens (not all the time, just when the door was not responding to brillo pads) I started on my glass door to have it shatter into tiny pieces.

On googling, I found out that while this isn't common, it happens more than I ever knew. I've replaced my cooker since and new one warns against glass scrapers saying that it could cause shattering.

I've not used one, but as it was new (and horrendously expensive), I have been good about cleaning. I find spraying on vinegar and then brillo padding over some pink stuff and leaving works well.

That's v useful to know Cynderella!

Definitely brillo pads.
