How I do I clean the yucky brown sucker pads on a bathmat?

Dh's job to clean the bathroom - so the inside of the sink, bath and toilet are all clean, but that's about it. The underside of the bathmat is now pretty grim. Is there a quick way of cleaning it short of getting in there with a nail brush or something?

this is the nonslip in-bath mat, yes?

dump in bath overnight with slosh of biological washing powder

rinse well

I just cleaned mine by letting it soak in some milton for a wee while then giving it a rub over with a cloth. It cleaned it up nicely. I'm sure you could also use normal bleach.

washing machine........now why didn't I think of that!

MrsBadger · 31/12/2007 13:33

oh yes, if on-floor dripmat type, sling in washer

MamaG · 31/12/2007 13:34

surely yo ucan't put the rubber ones inteh washer though?

dingdongmerrilyonFLIER · 31/12/2007 13:35

why not the rubber ones?

brusselbeansprouts · 31/12/2007 13:36

Sorry, yes, this is ds's non-slip, in the bath, bathmat.

Spray it with Dettol mould & mildew removed, leave it a short time then scrub with a soft washing up brush in diagonal lines - only takes a couple of mins.

MamaG · 31/12/2007 13:37

dunno - I imagined it might melt! Do you put your rubber in the washing machine?

dingdongmerrilyonFLIER · 31/12/2007 13:42

i wouldn't think a bath mat would melt, not unless you put it on a boil wash a 30 or 40 degree wash would be ok, i would think.

SantaBabyBeenAnAwfulGoodGirl · 31/12/2007 13:48

buy a new one babe

LowFat · 31/12/2007 13:51

Buy a new back scrubber, then use the old one to scrub the suckers, just a bit of bathroom cleaner needed - it works

ProjectIcarus · 31/12/2007 14:16

yep 40 wash in it goes.

becklesparkle · 31/12/2007 14:18

soak in washing powder and hot water for an hour, then wipe it over!

Either that or spray on some flash bathroom spray, leave it for a while and wipe off.

PanicPressiePants · 31/12/2007 14:19

I stick ours in the dish washer.

PanicPressiePants · 31/12/2007 14:21

There is a rule in our house:

If it doesn't survive the washing machine/dishwasher, then it wasn't worth having!

This applies to bath mats, cosy toes, toys (plastic and cuddly variety) etc etc.

FourPlusOne · 31/12/2007 14:24

I just soak mine in a bucket of milton solution for a while. Seems to work.
