2/3 litre compost caddies but 5 litre liners

I'm looking at a new compost caddy as my 5 litre one is gross and attracts fruit flies, but I noticed that some really nice ones are just 2/3 litres whereas the standard liners only come in 5 litres. I know smaller ones are available online but I don't want the extra cost.

Does anyone else have a smaller caddy like that and what liner do you use with it? And is 2/3 litres adequate?

I have a small caddy, and use the larger liner bag things in it. It's fine for me - but I live on my own.

I use paper compost bags from Amazon - come in different sizes including 3l.

We’ve got a 3L Brabantia caddy which is perfect for two of us.

The best bags are actually the fruit & vegetable compostable plastic bags that Waitrose use for self-weigh fruit & veg. I snaffle a handful every time I’m in. Compostable 3L bags are hard/expensive to come by.

Thanks everyone, I went for the 3 litre one in the end. I just find that as a single person a 5 litre caddy is horrible before I put it outside.

I had exactly the same problem OP and I am using a smaller one now (with 5l bags!)

So you need a liner? We just compost directly into small caddy, then take caddy and tip into compost bin outside. Bring back in an wash probably with washing up liquid.

I usually empty every 2 days on average even if not full as don’t want old food sitting in kitchen

We do because our council runs a food waste bin service, and they ask for it to be bagged.
