Gettng rid of mould and damp patches in kitchen

Sorry, this is a really boring question, but I took it upon myself to clear the tops of the kitchen cupboards today of all the crap that' sat up there since the day we moved in.

Anyway, whilst on my cleaning spree I have come across a load of mould on the walls above the cupboards, and with everything down it is really visible. I have tried wiping the walls with washing up liquid and a sponge, and then dried it but the patches are still there so I was wondering whether I could use bleach or whether that would be a really silly idea? I can't afford to go out and buy any fancy mould cleaning stuff, so its either bleach or soda crystals, although I don't actually know what they are used for .

Thanks

I'd use a dilute soltution of bleach - that's basically what the mold and mildew sprays are.

Thanks Daisy. From this angle (the computer is just in front of the kitchen) the mould can't be seen. Maybe I should just sit here for the rest of the day and pretend it's not there...

Sorry to butt in here, but my mould/mildew is on the underside of my bathroom window. If I wipe or spray something on it, it drips off before it has the chance to work. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I'd probably use a stronger concentration of bleach solution so it works more quickly, apply with a cloth and wipe gently! (BTW I'm not an expert on mold, just lived in a rented house once that took about 16 hours to get the mold off the tile grouting!)

This is what I do in my bathroom and it works a treat. First I spray all the mould patches with Dettol Mould & Mildew spray which has some serious nasties in as the patches are gone in minutes. It's nasty stuff though so make sure you spray, open all the windows, close the door and don't let anyone in for an hour or two. Then I wipe bicarba and vinegar over the walls with a sponge which neutralises the bleach. Then I wipe the walls with a sponge dipped in oil of cloves in water (a few drops is all you need). Cloves is a fantastic mould inhibitor and it smells great

Good luck
