Water at bottom of fridge - why?

I am getting fed up with there always being masses of water at the bottom of my fridge. I've cleaned out the hole at the back, and it is spotless, and keep emptying the little channel that hold water. If I turn the temperature down the water freezes, and if I turn it up I get more water. There is a dcent gap between the back of the fridge and the wall too.

What am I missing, or is it something that I can't fix?

It is a 2 year old Bosch fridge/freezer, if that makes any difference.

We had this, and ended up defrosting the whole bloomin thing. There was masses of ice in the freezer bit, too much and that seemed to make it worse.

So armed with pickaxe, crampons and a hairdryer we blasted all the freezer ice away. It made the situation betterand we don't have any water anymore. Have a look at your freezer, it might be the problem.

Aha, interesting! So even though the fridge and freezer bits are quite separate one could be affecting the other? It is the kind where the fridge is on top, and the freezer at the bottom - different doors, different thermostats, but the same appliance, not one of those with a built in little freeze drawer.

I don't think I've ever defrosted the freezer, even when we moved house (it was only next door). And it is jam-packed.

Our fridge is above our freezer and the ice was inches thick. Have a scrape and see if it works.

Same prob here. We totally defrosted fridge and freezer last week before the big Tesco Christmas order arrived. I knew that the hole at the back was completely iced over and presumed that was the reason. However since defrosting and getting hole entirely empty and clean, it still keeps icing up and unless I attack it every day with a knife it starts pooling water at the bottom.

So... no advice just hoping someone else has a good solution!

How odd that this thread has come up. My fridge has started to do the same. I have to mop it up with a towel. I have come to the conclusion that the bloody thing is just knackered and I have to buy a new one.

My handyman/stroke repair man told me it's due to the stick thingy that we use to broddle the hole with not being long enough and not clearing far enough down. He threw mine away in disgust and replaced it with a cable tie which i now use to broddle with. I only have a problem now when I don't broddle often enough HTH

My fridge annoys me as it either has ice drops on the back or condensation drops. Dh and I can't agree what number to have it on.

expatinscotland · 28/12/2007 15:19

We get it because teh utility room where the fridge sits is freezing and full of damp.

MuffinMclay · 28/12/2007 15:28

I'll try broddling (what a great word) again and see if that helps.

Pretty sure it isn't a cold or damp problem in our case. It is against a damp-free internal wall.

Think we'll have to do some serious eating before defrosting the freezer is an option (or wait for a very cold day and stick the contents outside).
